Oh my, yes. Over the last ten years, the talent-level, diversity of bands, crowds, and available live venues have all dropped off. There used to be a lot of great musicians playing all styles of music in Altoona, both covers and originals. Now, the talent pool is pretty limited and the format has become pretty homogenized. Most of the live music venues have either closed up or stopped having live entertainment. Really, McGarvey's and 4D's are the only live music venues left in 'toon town. It looks like Claudio occasionally has bands at 30 Something and I think the Buchinese Club occasionally has live entertainment. I don't know much about Family Pizza. Does the Old Canal Inn still book? Burgi's, Pelly's, Victory Lane, The Bar, Peter C's, The Hitching Post, The Island, and Beer Bellies are all gone.
There's still a crowd in Altoona, but if you want to play more than once a month, you have to hit the road. _________________ "He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film. |
