Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 18 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the show's mailboxes this week to see what new recordings have arrived in recent weeks, and we debuted a number of new tunes! We heard new songs from Bill Deasy, Black Cat Moan, Nick Stahlman, The Commonheart, Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, Sam Smith, Sherri Mullen and Wings That Buzz. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1993 number by Nixon Pit Crew from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to pay homage to recently departed Nova Scotia-based singer and songwriter Lloyd Mac Hardy.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Little Ears"
GENE THE WEREWOLF - "The Loner"
BILL DEASY - "Timeless Things"
JACK SERVELLO - "Just a Warmer Place to Rest"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Silent Night Blues"
JIMMY ADLER - "Drank Too Much"
NICK STAHLMAN - "Ima Dawg"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "I'm Doing Fine"
THE COMMONHEART - "Who Dat Mama"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Never Again"

HOUR TWO:

WINE OF NAILS - "Manhattan South"
THE PERKOLATORS - "Give Me My Love"
SAM SMITH - "A Christmas Timeline"
SHERRI MULLEN - "Halo"
WINGS THAT BUZZ - "Still Dreamin'"
NIXON PIT CREW - "Pure Thought" (1993, Local Music Flashback)
LLOYD MAC HARDY - "Won't You Help Me Dr. Phil" (Across State Lines)
BLACK RIDGE - "Too Somethin' Like This"
ONE ADAM 12 - "Bullet Proof"
PAWN TAKES QUEEN - "Remedy and Poison"

Since our next program airs on December 25, Christmas Day, it logically will be our annual Christmas Special! We will celebrate Christmas the "Homegrown Rocker" way, by spotlighting holiday music by local and regional bands and artists! We will hear area musicians offering their takes on time-tested holiday classics, as well as generating their own original Christmas-themed songs! So break out the cookies and eggnog, and fire up the "Homegrown Rocker" on Christmas night for holiday music with a local flavor!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 1 - 2016 Year in Review Special
JAN. 15 - Nobody's Heroes
JAN. 22 - Made It to the Majors Special
FEB. 5 (Super Bowl Sunday) - Ladies of Local Music Special
MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Cresson-based singer and songwriter Josh Gallagher finished fourth in the finals of NBC's popular talent search program The Voice. After audience votes enabled Josh to make it to the show's Final Four, the show's finals played out last Monday and Tuesday, with all four finalists stating their cases for winning during Monday's program, and the winner by audience votes announced on Tuesday's program. Sundance Head - the son of 1960s hitmaker Roy Head - captured first place, followed by Billy Gilman in second, We McDonald in third, and Josh finishing fourth. Josh will perform two shows at Altoona's Mishler Theatre on Saturday, January 28, and he has been announced as a headliner for next summer's annual Thunder In The Valley motorcycle rally in Johnstown.

After six years at the vocal helm, Matt Watson has announced that he is stepping away as frontman for Altoona metal rockers Naildriver. The group will continue on. The departure is a friendly one.

Reading-based singer and songwriter Caroline Reese is set to release her brand new album. The new CD, entitled Tenderfoot, comes out this week, with a special CD-release event happening Friday at Building 24 in Reading.
