Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 5 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Once again, we knew we were up against a major sporting event that usually happens on the first Sunday in February every year. Thanks to anybody and everybody who chose to support local music on the radio airwaves while the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons tangled in Super Bowl LI! In our usual Super Bowl Sunday tradition, we used this week's program to salute the women who create and perform music on the area music scene in our annual "Ladies of Local Music" special. We heard music involving the ladies who sing, write, play guitars, basses, drums, ukuleles, keys and other instruments on the area music scene! Along the way, we dug a 2002 live track from Juiced from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed The Crew of the Half Moon's Blanket Fort Radio CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist (with spotlighted women in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

YOUNG LUNGS - "Reality" (Meg Wills - singer)
BREE GEARHART - "Get Bright Moonlight" (Bree - singer/guitarist)

ANNE KACHLINE - "Torn in Two" (Anne - singer/guitarist)
HANNAH RICHARDSON - "Complicated" (Hannah - singer)
HANNAH BINGMAN "Deep Water" (Hannah - singer/guitarist)

HOUR TWO:

OVERHEAD - "Midnight Son" (Wendy Hanson - singer/percussion/keys/guitar, Eileen Christman - violin/bass/keys/recorder/singer)

FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT - "Something" (Abby - singer/bassist)

On our next program, we return to the mailboxes to investigate the new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks - meaning we will be debuting a lot of new tunes from the area music scene! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Reggie Wayne Morris' Don't Bring Me Daylight CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 12 - Millennium Drawing Winner (to be announced)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
