Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 12 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to see what new recordings have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted several new songs from the area music scene. Getting their first spins on the "Homegrown Rocker" were new tunes from Jimmy Adler, One of the Bigs, Tommi Mushroom, Clark's Secret Identity, Phobos Anomaly and The Crew of the Half Moon. In addition, we spoke with former Queensryche singer Geoff Tate, who will perform at State College's State Theatre on Tuesday night, February 21! Geoff discussed his current career and acoustic tour, and we heard a new tune from Geoff's project Operation Mindcrime! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1994 song from Altoona's Free Form from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Reggie Wayne Morris' Don't Bring Me Daylight CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

HABATAT - "Fallacy"
TARRA LAYNE - "Beautiful Day"
JIMMY ADLER - "Grease Alley"
CROSSROADS DUO - "Nothin' But the Blues"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "In the Morning"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking a Straight Line"

(GEOFF TATE INTERVIEW)
OPERATION MINDCRIME - "Left for Dead" (Across State Lines)

DEAD LEAVES - "Fall Back"

HOUR TWO:

FULL KILT - "Come Have a Drink with the Band"
PA. CRUDE - "Can't Afford You"
TOMMI MUSHROOM - "Clamboot Boogie"
REGGIE WAYNE MORRIS - "Don't Bring Me Daylight"
CLARK'S SECRET IDENTITY - "Laughing Stock Nemesis"
FREE FORM - "We Two Divide" (1994, Local Music Flashback)
PHOBOS ANOMALY - "7 of Diamonds"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Stark Lost Lovers"
CELL 15 - "Manny's Gone Home"

On our next program, we will continue to explore the mailboxes in search of new music that has recently arrived, as well as preview some of the bands and artists who will be taking part in the upcoming 21st annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. We will again update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside of Pennsylvania, and review The Whatleys' American Party CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 12 - Millennium Drawing Winner (to be announced)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

In band personnel news, drummer Jamie Kmett has parted ways with Altoona-based heavy metal rockers Naildriver, citing career reasons. The parting was a friendly one.

After founding member and longtime guitarist John McKelvey retired from the electric edition of popular area rockers Flight 19, the group has returned to action with a new addition. Former bassist Mark Triforo has rejoined the "Party Plane" flight crew, while previous bassist Rogan Allen now assumes all guitar duties. The updated Flight 19 roster performed on February 11 at Altoona's Four Dees Lounge.

And The Arena Bar & Grill in State College is starting a Battle of the Bands competition in March. The contest will run on select Friday nights starting on March 10, with the finals taking place on Friday, April 28. Prizes go to the top three winners, with the top finisher also winning a booked gig at The Arena. For a registration form bands should email hhdrums@gmail.com.
