If you have headphones that are capable of reproducing bass frequencies, the actual headphones you use are pretty far down the list of what will enable you to hear the bass in prerecorded music (which is what I assume you are talking about)

#1 is the mix of the song you are listening to.

#2 is your ability to pick out the bass in prerecorded music, its a learned skill

#3 is the EQ on your player (ipod or similar I'm guessing?)

I think the headphones you stick in your ear have slightly better bass response than the can types, which have better response than those bullshit, non-sealed, over the ear types.

Your best bet is Googling the best headphones for metal. I use the Kingston HyperX Cloud gaming headset on my PC, with a Line 6 UX2 that I use for guitar as my playback as well, and it works great for music too (especially death metal and deathcore). I play guitar though and am more interested in that.

You should be able to tweak your output to have more bass as well. Look in the sound settings of whatever device you're using.

I do see quite a bit about Grado and metal though, so you might want to look there.

Vox made headphones- amp simulators with an imput for external mp3 device. You just plug in the headphones to the bass (they also make it for guitar) and done!
