Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 23 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

After three consecutive weeks of guests, it was time to revisit the mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted lots of new music, including songs from Marshmellow Overcoat, Gary Carl, Mitch Littler, One Of the Bigs, Ron Russell, Fyre, Medusa's Disco, American Evil and Decipher Life. We also dug a 1996 number from State College's 39 Fingers from the archive for our "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Doctor Smoke's The Witching Hour CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NOBODY'S HEROES - "Scratch My Name on the World"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "Oolalala"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Marshmellow Overcoat"
WINGS THAT BUZZ - "I'll Just Wait in the Sun"
GARY CARL - "Never Enough"
BLOSSOM HOLLOW - "Knight in Shining Armor"
MITCH LITTLER - "Makin' Good Times"
DAN STONEROOK - "The Storm"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "Three Long Years"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Coffee and Cannibis"
RON RUSSELL - "Bring the Dream"

HOUR TWO:

INSIDE OUT - "Unbreakable"
ONE ADAM 12 - "Devil's Lullaby"
FYRE - "Madness"
DOCTOR SMOKE - "The Seeker"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Atomic 7"
39 FINGERS - "Thinkin-n-Drinkin'" (1996, Local Music Flashback)
AMERICAN EVIL - "Evil Things"
AFTER THE FALL - "My Confession"
DECIPHER LIFE - "Cripples the Truth"
PSYCHO PROPHECY - "Bound, Beaten, Broken"

For our next program, we will resurrect a special we first tried in 2013, "The Long and Short of It" Special. The premise is to showcase some of the lengthiest and shortest tunes the area music scene has to offer. We will mix back and forth between the two extremes, with songs clocking in at under two and a half minutes (and some far shorter than that), and songs clocking in at more than ten minutes (and a few far exceeding that length). Will anyone overtake Mysterytrain's record for longest track ever played on the show? (During the first "Long and Short of It" edition, Mysterytrain's song "Shades of August Jam" clocked in at 30:19!) Or will a new short song record on the program be established? Listen in to find out on the "Long and Short of It" Special!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 14 - Nag Champions
MAY 21 - Jack Pyers
MAY 28 - Memorial Day Special
JUNE 11 - The Whatleys
JUNE 18 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 25 - 13 Saints

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
