Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 7 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we got caught up on arrivals in the "Homegrown Rocker" mailboxes, and checked out new recordings we have received in recent weeks. That means we debuted a lot of new tunes on the program, including new numbers from Chris Bell, Dirty Mojo, Jack Pyers, Nag Champions, Rivers, Black Cat Moan, Dave Bray, Skell, Seraphine, Darkness On The Radio, Vitruvia and Highway 4! Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 live performance track from Mike Swavely & the Chrome Magnatones from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Baltimore's Silvertung (who return to the area later this month)! And we reviewed not one, but TWO CD's in "The Professor's CD Corner" - Ron Russell's Shadows Of Me CD during the first hour, and Gun Metal Gray's Island of the Damned CD during the second hour!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Media Controls the World"
LENINA CROWNE - "Know"
CHRIS BELL 100% BLUES - "Paycheck to Paycheck"
DIRTY MOJO BLUES BAND - "Made Cents at the Time"
JACK PYERS - "The Truth"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "U-235"
NAG CHAMPIONS - "Take Me Home (Morning Sun)"
RON RUSSELL - "Still Burning for You"
RIVERS - "Suey"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Messin' Round"
DAVE BRAY - "Guitar Graveyard"

HOUR TWO:

SKELL - "Everything's Fine"
SERAPHINE - "Lore"
DARKNESS ON THE RADIO - "Paint My Bones Black"
GUN METAL GRAY - "Island of the Damned"
VITRUVIA - "Let Me Love You"
MIKE SWAVELY & THE CHROME MAGNATONES - "Ghost Riders in the Sky" (live) (2001, Local Music Flashback)
SILVERTUNG - "Deja Vu" (Across State Lines)
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Twisted Dentist"
HIGHWAY 4 - "Make Up Your Mind"

We will hook up with band guests on our next program, as we head to a remote studio site in northern Cambria County to get inside the musical world of the Nag Champions Mystery Band! We will find out their story, and hear tunes from their self-titled album! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review Shine Delphi's In The Morning CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 21 - Jack Pyers
MAY 28 - Memorial Day Special
JUNE 11 - The Whatleys
JUNE 18 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 25 - 13 Saints
JULY 30 - Mama Corn ("Fishin' Musician" Special)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Pottsville-based national recording group Crobot recently saw the departure of two of its members. The group's rhythm section, bassist Jake Figueroa and drummer Paul Figueroa, left the group due to creative differences. Crobot is continuing on with fill-in-bassist Alec Ladron (of Scorpion Child) and Kevin Fender (of The Sword).

Drummer Rob Bonsell has joined Johnstown-based blues group Black Cat Moan. Rob's onstage debut happened this past Saturday night (May 6) at Moondogs in Blawnox (northern Pittsburgh). Black Cat Moan will open for blues legend Buddy Guy at the Palace Theater in Greensburg on Sunday, May 14.

And a special celebration of The Beatles will take place later this month at Altoona's historic Mishler Theatre. Altitude Entertainment and P&J Productions will present "It Was 50 Years Ago Today," a tribute concert celebrating the golden anniversary of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. The show takes place on Friday, May 26 and starts at 7:30 p.m. Produced by Will Jones with music direction by Rick Wertz, the concert will feature performances from a number of area musicians including Aislinn Feathers, Erika Marino, Dave Misera, Steve Oswalt, Tyne Palazzi and Matt Pletcher, along with the Allegheny Ballet Company and The Altitude Rock Ensemble. Providing narration during the show will be award-winning author and Beatles scholar Dr. Kenneth Womack, who wrote the 2007 book Long and Winding Roads, a detailed study about the artistry of The Beatles.
