Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 28 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week was our annual celebration of Memorial Day tradition as we presented this year's installment of the "Memorial Day Special!" We journeyed down Local Music Memory Lane for this week's two hours, and featured music from past area bands and artists! We heard from past popular area band names like Shock Zone, The Stabilizers, Fuse, Piranha, The House Pets, Free Form, Psycho, Cut The Mustard and more. We also featured curios such as an early demo track from Wrathchild (who would later evolve into Atlantic Records recording artists Wrathchild America), and a never-before aired live track from mid-1990s Altoona-based metal rockers I Against I! We also saluted some of the local and regional musicians we have lost along the way, including those who have recently passed such as Dr. Dave Parry, Jerry Haines, Pete Rossi and George Welsh.

Here is this week's playlist (with years and departed musicians in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

SHOCK ZONE - "Just A Game" (1987)
THE STABILIZERS - "Midnight Dreamer" (1982)
SNAPDRAGONS - "Embassy" (1997) (Jody Sinclair, R.I.P.)
FUSE - "Diamondback" (1997)
PIRANHA - "White Lady" (1978)
THE HOUSE PETS - "Prowler" (1986)
FREE FORM - "We Two Divide" (1994)
TUKKER - "Kalico" (1997)
WRATHCHILD - "London After Midnight" (1984)
PSYCHO - "Love Me Tonight" (1986)
ANVAH - "Shaking the Dust Off" (2010) (George Welsh ["Geo Anvah"], R.I.P.)

HOUR TWO:

HENWAE - "Hillbilly Hoedowner" (1989) (Harry Kirshner, R.I.P.)
CUT THE MUSTARD - "Cross That Line" (1985)
JERRY HAINES - "On My Mind" (2008) (Jerry, R.I.P.)
9 LB. HAMMER - "Smokestack Lightnin'" (2001) (Dr. Dave Parry, R.I.P.)
BEAUS OF BEETHOVEN - "It's Too Late" (1966)

I AGAINST I - "Walking Dead" (live at New Sebastiano's, Altoona 4/5/1995)
BLYTZ - "Born to Rock" (1985)

We return to the mailboxes for our next program, and will provide maximum local and regional music as we check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! We'll also update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear a song from an independent band or artist from outside of PA, and review two CD's in "The Professor's CD Corner" - Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats' Twelve Thirty-One CD during our first hour, and The Granati Brothers' The Show CD during the second hour!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 11 - The Whatleys
JUNE 18 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 25 - 13 Saints
JULY 2 - Cover Song Special
JULY 30 - Mama Corn ("Fishin' Musician" Special)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
