Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 9 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we spoke with our guest, singer/songwriter Doug Forshey, in a conversation recorded at Quiet Oaks Campground in Cross Fork, PA following this year's Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival! A Huntingdon County native now based in Nashville, Doug shared his story and discussed his career and life in Nashville. We also featured some of Doug's solo music, as well as tracks from his newly-released CD collaboration with Chris Strait, Tied to the Tracks! And since Doug was our guest, we broke out a 1989 tune from Doug's hard-rocking days with Thin Ice for this week's "Local Music Flashback!" We also updated "Local Music News," debuted new songs from Callie Tomblin, Red Paint, Zach Wade & the Good Grief, The Crooked Line and Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, and reviewed Laika, the Astro-Hound's Kairos CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

RAVEN & THE WREN - "Lost and Found"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "The Bottle"
DOUG FORSHEY & CHRIS STRAIT - "Tied to the Tracks"
JACK PYERS - "She Said Okay"

MAMA CORN - "Smoked Country Jam"
DOUG FORSHEY - "Built to Last"
SHINE DELPHI - "Tiny Little Seed"
CALLIE TOMBLIN - "Break Me"
RED PAINT - "Abbasong"

HOUR TWO:

JACKSON MONSOUR - "July 5th"
ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "@ the Bitter End"
DOUG FORSHEY & CHRIS STRAIT - "Other Side"

THIN ICE - "Hard Time" (1989, Local Music Flashback)
DOUG FORSHEY & CHRIS STRAIT - "Light on the Other Side"
THE CROOKED LINE - "Comfort Zone"
MISS MELANIE & THE VALLEY RATS - "Twelve Thirty One"

On our next program, we will catch up with our band guests, Pittsburgh rockers 13 Saints, and air a conversation recorded days ago at a Greensburg watering hole! We'll meet the band members and find out their story, plus feature songs from 13 Saints' debut album, Crushing Copper! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review The Commonheart's Grown CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 30 - Mama Corn ("Fishin' Musician" Special)
AUG. 20 - Matt Otis & the Sound
OCT. 15 - Lady

In Local Music News...

The area music scene has been saddened by two passings in the past week. Colin McAtee, the bass player for Centre County heavy metal rockers It Is Written, died unexpectedly on July 2 at age 35. It Is Written was in the middle of a performance tour of southern states at the time of Colin's passing, and has cancelled all remaining shows. A benefit to help Colin's family with final expenses is being organized for July 22 at McGarvey's in Altoona.

A popular live music venue owner in the Johnstown area also passed in recent days. Gary Matolyak, who owned Ace's Lounge in Johnstown's Cambria City neighborhood until 2014, passed away on July 4 at age 65. Gary oversaw the rise of Ace's into one of the Johnstown area's most prominent venues, which hosted concerts, wedding receptions and other special events. Gary sold and stepped away from Ace's in 2014 due to health issues.

Chris Rattie has announced the newest member of his group The New Rebels. Jeff Downing will now play bass for the group. Jeff's debut with Chris Rattie & the New Rebels will happen during the upcoming annual People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts in Boalsburg.
