Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 12 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

With their vehicular issues resolved, our guest band, Lewistown rockers Calmly Poisoned, joined us on this week's program! We met the band members and learned their story, discussed their music and focus, and featured live performance tracks from the group (recorded earlier this year at The Arena in State College) and solo songs from singer Chip Jabs' appearance last year on the "Homegrown Rocker!" Along the way, we debuted new tunes from Hot Metal Bridges and Anatomy of the Sacred. We also updated "Local Music News," broke out a 2002 song by Tyrone blues-rock trio Electric Blue from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Matt Otis & the Sound's So It Goes... CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

In Local Music News...

As the holiday season approaches, a new holiday compilation CD showcasing the Johnstown music scene is being released. Organized by Bo Moore, the CD, A Johnstown Christmas, will feature 16 songs from a variety of Johnstown area musicians, with sale proceeds helping out the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat newspaper's Santa Fund, which provides toys for area children ages 12 and under from families who are facing financial hardships. One of the performers contributing a song to the CD is former finalist from NBC's The Voice, Josh Gallagher, who sings a rendition of "Silent Night." Other performers on the CD include the Moore Brothers, Jazz In Your Face, Denise Baldwin, Black Cat Moan, Johnny Bayush, Walt & Jackie, Bo Moore & Rachel Allen, and more. CD pre-sales are under way now, and a special CD-release event will happen on November 25 at BottleWorks in Johnstown.

We again remind everyone that the annual Patched Together benefit happens on Saturday, November 18 at the Bavarian Aid Society in Altoona. "Patched Together: A Day of Music to Benefit the Healing Patch" will start at 2 p.m., and feature music from eight bands and artists: Zach Wade & the Good Grief, Nag Champions Mystery Band, Greg Burley, Stone Bridge Blues Band, The Sitch, Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors, The Chrome Hearts and Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band. Admission is $5 per person with children ages 12 and under admitted free; proceeds benefit the Healing Patch, which provides counseling and mentoring services to young people and families who have suffered the deaths of loved ones.

And the area music scene was saddened by the unexpected passing of a longtime member and friend last weekend. Tom Urbain died unexpectedly on November 4 at age 50. Known by the nickname "Urbs," Tom played with numerous area bands spanning a 30-year career. In recent years, he had been a guitar player and singer with Cambria County-based rock band Beyond Reason, as well as the family band The Rattlers, and briefly with acoustic trio Strings Radio. Tom was also a member of A.B.A.T.E., and was a founding member of the organization's Cambria Summit Chapter. He is survived by his wife, Maria, and two sons. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" extend our heartfelt sympathies to Tom's family, friends and musical colleagues.
