Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 17 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the mailboxes this week to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and debuted a lot of new music on the program. Receiving their first "Homegrown Rocker" airplay were new tunes from The Arts, Fall of Ishvall, Nag Champions Mystery Band, a new holiday song by Small Town Titans, the Mollick-Carlin Band, Steve Brosky, X's For Eyes and One Adam 12. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1999 number by Stone Alley from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" twice this week - debuting a new acoustic number from Baltimore's Silvertung in the first hour, and music from southern Illinois' The Number 9 Blacktops during the second hour!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LORDS A LEAPING - "The Bells of Christmas"
THE CLARKS - "Blood and Roses"
THE ARTS - "Return of the Alien"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Tune of the Turning World"

In Local Music News...

A popular area musician is leaving the area to make music in Nashville. Jason "Junior" Tutwiler will make several final area appearances before making his move. He will play his last show with Pure Cane Sugar on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Zeno's in State College, and will perform as part of a farewell holiday show with Chris Rattie & the New Rebels and The Tommy Roberts on Friday night, Dec. 22 at The Bar in Boalsburg. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" wish Junior much success on his new adventure.

Altitude Entertainment is presenting a special area music holiday concert on Friday evening, Dec. 22. "Rock the Halls! A Community Musical Concert Celebrating The Holiday Season" will happen on the stage of Altoona's historic Mishler Theatre. Produced by Will Jones with musical direction by Eric Wertz, "Rock the Halls" will feature a variety of rock-geared Christmas favorites, performed by a cast including Rick Herbster, Dave Misera and the Star Performance Dance Academy, plus the Altitude Yule Band that includes Beth Carpenter, Jason Feathers, Kenny Murdick, Scott Pappal, Paul Rainey and more. Tickets are $15 per person; for more information, visit the website www.mishlertheatre.org.

The area music scene experienced sad news this past week with the passing of Bill Venet, Sr. last Saturday after a brief illness. Bill was 63. Bill was the singer and centerpiece of the Johnstown-based Johnny Cash tribute show Cash Through the Years, which played throughout the state. Bill was a pleasant personality on and off the stage, and shared a vast knowledge of Johnny Cash and his career. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express heartfelt sympathies to Bill's surviving family, friends and bandmates.
