Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 7 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

After a couple of holiday-themed specials to close out 2017, we returned to the mailboxes this week to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and debuted a lot of new music on the program. We gave first plays to new tunes from Jack Servello & Bill Dann, Rausch, Matt Aquiline & the Dead End Streets, Brett Staggs, The Hobbs Sisters, Images Of Eden, The Arts, Shattered and X's For Eyes. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1989 number by Altoona power-metal rockers Chilling Vision from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a track from former Lies, Inc. singer Lily Hoy as she now fronts Washington, D.C. progressive metal rockers Master Sword!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

YOUNG LUNGS - "Reality"
THE PERKOLATORS - "Give Me My Love"
JACK SERVELLO & BILL DANN - "Can't Imagine Heaven"
THE WRECKERS - "Best Days"
RAUSCH - "Greener Grass"
MEDUSA'S DISCO - "Atomic 7"
MATT AQUILINE & THE DEAD END STREETS - "Survivable"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking a Straight Line"
BRETT STAGGS - "Home Is Where the Party Is"
DAN STONEROOK - "The Storm"
THE HOBBS SISTERS - "Speed Dial"

HOUR TWO:

PHOBOS ANOMALY - "Breaking in the Tomb of God"
PAWN TAKES QUEEN - "Break the Mold"
IMAGES OF EDEN - "Shield Me"
THE ARTS - "Distortions"
SHATTERED - "Hell Bent"
CHILLING VISION - "Programmed to Kill" (1989, Local Music Flashback)
MASTER SWORD - "Tower of Stone" (Across State Lines)
ANATOMY OF THE SACRED - "Narcissi"
X's FOR EYES - "Thieves"
THE WHATLEYS - "13 Black"

On our next program, we will speak with our guest, Johnstown-based singer and songwriter Dan Stonerook! The artist featured on the cover of the January issue of PA Musician Magazine, Dan will inform us about his music and career, and we will hear tracks from Dan's debut CD Ghosts From the Past, as well as a few other curios. Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review Steve Brosky's Still CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 28 - Sterling Koch
FEB. 4 - Ladies of Local Music Special
FEB. 25 - X's For Eyes
MAR. 4 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 11 - Homegrown Rocker 20th Anniversary Special!

In Local Music News...

Several band personnel moves transpired as 2017 transitioned in 2018...Drummer Rick Rock parted ways with Johnstown-based heavy rock group Rust. Rick is leaving to pursue other musical interests, and the parting is a friendly one...Bassist Mike Gherrity announced his retirement from full-time live playing, and is stepping away from Altoona-based rockers Bone Jacked...Singer Pat Conway is also retiring from live performing, and the group he has fronted for the past few years - Johnstown rockers Bazooka Joe - announced they are going their separate ways.

And a musician who briefly played bass for area jam rockers Mysterytrain passed away recently. Mysterytrain reported the sad news of the passing of David Petrea on December 28 after battling cancer. He was 51. From Delaware, David played bass for the Delaware and Philadelphia-based funk/jazz-rock band Green Eggs and Jam, and played bass for Mysterytrain for several shows in 2016. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" extend our sympathies to David's surviving family and friends.
