Yes. Saw them in Philly a few weeks ago. Great show! Looking forward to Pittsburgh.

Rod

I'm reminded of attending a Dixie Dregs concert in Pittsburgh during the mid-90s. Next to me, there was a guy with a giant baseball cap and big round glasses screaming "Rod the god" all night long. Rod was indeed awesome and a super nice guy. He handed me a stick after the show.

overrated

I know I'll take some heat for this but most high-end drums are overrated. With the right head selection and a little effort finding the tuning most entry-level drum kits sound pretty good. I suspect I'm not alone but I hear very little difference between top-of-the-line models and entry-level model...

drummer

At first, I thought the DT drummer departure and subsequent search was becoming way too dramatic. But, I have to admit the videos are pretty interesting. In the little bit of playing they do present in the video, it's pretty wild to hear how Lang and Donati tried to add their own interpretation of t...

It's Mike Mangini. However, what's most shocking is the fact that Rod Morgenstein was not auditioned!?!?!

Dream Theater

My guess on the new DT drummer: Rod Morgenstein. He's recorded and/or performed with both Rudess and Myung. Neither Winger nor The Dixie Dregs are all that busy.

This is super sad! I knew he was ill but didn't know the extent. His Dixie Chicken groove is one of the greasiest drum grooves ever.

The song that's been stuck in my head for the past several days is "Computer God" from Black Sabbath's Dehumanizer album with Dio from the early '90s. I've been on a BIG Dio kick lately especially his time in Rainbow (Stargazer rules). And yes, Mars Volta's Deloused... is a great album. As...

Bruce Arians needs to be canned ASAP. His play calling is suspect more often than not. Do they even have a fullback on the roster? The empty backfield crap tells the defense all they need to know and leaves Ben unprotected.

Smick

I'm floored and saddened by this news. In the past few years, I starting drumming with some of the same musicians Smick's played with for years. I must have heard "Smick does it like this" a few hundred times. He had a big heart and always had an encouraging word for me. He was kind to let...

Fox News is absolutely biased toward conservative ideology. MSNBC favors liberal ideology. As a viewer of those two stations, I know what I'm getting. However, my problem stems from the fact that CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS all claim to present unbiased news. That's simply untrue. There is little questio...

Count off?

I'm having a debate with another musician and need some experienced opinions. When you (or your drummer) count off a tune, are you: 1) establishing BOTH the tempo and a starting point for the band OR, 2) choosing a starting point for the band and THEN make adjustments to the tempo once you're playing?
