There is a place in Johnstown that has underage bands at 709 Railroad Street. Sorry that's the only info I have, maybe google it? Or if someone on Rockpage knows what I'm talking about, maybe give these guys a contact name? There is also a new venue called VOMA (Venue of Emerging Arts) that is plann...

People are stupid, keep your name! It's your brand that you've been working on for three years now. Many times I have thought about changing Ribbon Grass cause everyone thinks we are blue grass if you've never heard us before but it's just too big of a risk after 14 years. Yes, after 14 years of doi...

Our demos in our press packages are short snippets of songs, not entire songs. I figure with limited time that everyone has, is a bar owner going to listen to an entire song anyway? We probably have about 50 seconds of each song than fade out and fade right into the next song. That way the bar owner...

Facebook, those people signed up to be a fan, they are telling you to advertise to them. And it's more user friendly. You aren't a band, you are a business so I'd go with Facebook.

Facebook has exploded and it's FREE, I agree to develop a page, but don't just leave it at that, advertise in your bar for your patrons to become a fan on Facebook. Have your bartenders and wait staff ask patrons if they know you have a FB page . . .word of mouth is so much bigger than anything else...

The Chris Klym Memorial Jam is set for Sunday, December 27th at 5 p.m. at Aces Lounge in Johnstown. There is no cover charge and it is open to the public. There is an array of bands scheduled to play, sorry I don't have the list with me here at work but I can post that later if people want to know w...

There will be some sort of musical tribute/memorial type thing at some future date. I do not have any details but I'm sure it will be posted on here when it is planned. I hear it is in the works? We can have one hell of a celebration of Chris's life!

I conned Chris into "filling in" for Ribbon Grass a few times and he ended up staying on as our drummer for well over a year, maybe even two years. I met him through the Oldies Spring Break show in the mid-nineties. When our drummer quit, I knew he'd be our go-to guy. He absolutely hated p...

Billy Joel and Tori Amos are two of my favorites along with Bernie Taupin (not sure how to spell his last name, Elton John's writing partner) and I agree with the Lennon/McCartney fans too. Prince is a great songwriter. Jim Morrison for his poetry. Most recently I bought Glen Hansard and Marketa Ing...

I credit my mom's record collection (mostly The Beatles) and her singing along that got me started. She would always sing the harmony line and I think that's how I learned how to sing harmonies or to hear them at least. While most girls were playing with dolls or whatever, I always played "show...

That's why I think acoustic is sort of more difficult. There is no stage show. You are stripped down and naked, you make a mistake, people know. So does image matter then? Sometimes I like acoustic more because I don't have to run around all night, other times I'd prefer the energy, depends on the d...

They are better than last year because we actually have a special teams unit that can do their job and not crouch over in pain from a strained hamstring after kicking the ball ten yards. I'm looking forward to watching Logan.

Good post. I use these rules of thumb about sitting in: - If the band doesnt know you, dont ask. - If the band does know you, wait to be asked. A band has their reasons if they dont ask or allow you to sit it. Its their gig. Dont be an ass and keep asking if the first answer was no. :D Yeah, that r...

I think it can go the other way too . . . .when I'm out and I have a night off, I don't always want to sit in with someone. It's my night off. Almost every musician I know was there so the festival is really finally about music more than ethnic, that's why they changed the name to Music Festival instead of FolkFest.
