1965 Fender Princeton

Post by Colton »

I might have to sell my baby to make car payments. I bought it from my great uncle the day before he died about 10 years ago.

1965 Fender Princeton, have all original documents, like owners manual, schematic, ect... Warrenty card is missing, as it was sent in. But this is a vintage fender, it kicks like the day it was made.

Sounds like a dream

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

I found one on Craigslist that was going for $1995. That amp had reverb, not sure if that will affect your asking price or not. There was another one on CapeScene.com, the asking price was $900. I hope these help you, though I'd advise doing some research so you can be sure that you aren't asking too much or too little.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

That was the transition year for Fender. Only a few amps made early in the year are pre-CBS (worth more) and yours looks like it could be one, but check to see if CBS is on any of your documentation and check the date on the tube chart (if its still there) If its not January, its not pre-CBS. In any event, its a Blackface and still has all of the pre-CBS attributes.

If its pre-CBS, It is probably worth around the $1500 range, give or take a few hundred. If its a CBS model, its probably worth a little bit less.

If you have an eBay account, you might want to put it up at around $1399 and see what happens. If you don't get any bids at that price, you can relist it at a lower price and get your original listing fee refunded.

January and September are the best months to sell this kind of stuff.

Hope this helps.

If there is any way you can get by without selling that amp then don't sell it!!!!
I was strapped for cash a few years back and sold my '65 fender blackface twin...I've been kicking myself ever since!

Plus, if you do put it up for sale, your going to be tempting me to go and hold up a liquor store so I can get the cash to buy it!!

Eliminate the middleman and hold up the liqour store yourself !
Oh yeah, Pick me up some Southern Comfort while you're in there!

Seriously, if there is any other way to get the money, I'd persue it.

Yeah, and if you don't mind, I'd like some Old Harper.

+1 on not selling the amp. I believe in paying your bills on time, but being strapped for cash to make a car payment isn't the same as being strapped for cash to make a mortgage payment. Are there any other avenues to find the money?

I have to agree with the majority on here. If you sell that amp, you'll regret it forever.

Two quick ways to make money in the United States:

1. Sell drugs
2. Prostitution

These might be the only jobs left in America where one can actualy put some money in the bank or enable themselves to have nice things!

Wait, wait, wait...put a large corn flake up for sale on EBay!

do not sell that amp !!! I sold a pre CBS Fender Mustang 20 years ago for 250.00 now that guitar is worth 4 times that. I miss that guitar so much and I still need my ass kicked for selling it. Now I have a Made in the US strat that i swear i will be buried with. I'll be homeless before I ever get rid of it.. So my advice is KEEP THE AMP,!!

+1 on the selling thing. I was hard up for money last year when I was unemployed, and posted my 1963 Zildjian A Ride cymbal here on RP, and basically was told by almost everyone that looked at the post to take the post down and keep the cymbal. My dad gave it to me, and you know what?

I'm much happier that I kept it.

Keep the amp, Colton. Or else I'll send this guy after you.

You cant take things with you when you die. its just stuff, and anything is replaceable. Only you know what you should do, man. When i was like 22, i lost EVERYTHING i owned at the time. i mean fucking everything. its sucked, cause among the car, clothes, gear, porn and everything else i had, was my teddy bear i had since i was a baby. something i was saving forever, especially if i ever had a kid. the bear was my "best friend" for like the first 8 years of my life. i was more pissed at losing that, than everything else combined. eventually i got over losing everything. and just started over.
you can always get another amp.

Yeah, i know the 'teddy bear' is gay but whatever. haha.

Time to go drop the piss hammer.

do not sell that amp as everyone has said. you cannot replace that tone.

try goig to the bank if thats where you financed it and just talk to them. maybe you could tell them your having a rough time this month and you would like to make an intrest payment. don't be afraid to talk to them. even if the tone isn't that great you owe to your unc to try all avenues before givivg it up. don't call the bank, go down in person and ask to talk to the mgr. they will try to figure something out for ya if they can. if not i'd let myself get a payment behind and try to make it up, before you let the amp go. it's not like your going to jail cuz you missed a payment. we're musicians man, we've all been down this road and we've all sold stuff we didn't want to sell for what ever reason. you have got to hang on to that amp. now if your kid needed a transplant or something then..... you gott no choice, but you've got some things you can do.

do you mind me asking what kind of doe you need to come up with to make your pymt?

I'm about 3 months behind at 200/month. Havin real troubles.. car is uninspected (just needs front brakes), needs insurance, and i dont live withing walking distance of any job. Been selling pretty much everything i own trying to sort this out.

Cant pay for the car because i have no job, and cant get to a job because the car isnt legal.

What a pain in the ass :!: Its been like this for months.

it sucks. i'm in a similar pickle...struggling to keep my head above water while i pay off a bunch of repairs to my car after the warranty expired...but i'm still paying the bank. it doesn't help when i have a job that SHOULD pay well...but really doesn't.

My Dear Bro Colton,

I would like to give you my point on your dilemma....

If I had an Vintage Fender amp like that and needed cash, I would go be a gigolo for the elderly 50 to 90 year old grandmothers first before I would sell that amp.

Everyone here is right you will regret it and I think eveyone here would agree if thats what it takes no one would think badly of you cause you kept your amp

Well, here's my opinion on the matter...

I'm fuckin screwed. No way to get from martinsburg to altoona for work, gigs, or anything else. If i sell this amp, which i dont even use, I might have some money to get a vehicle so i dont lose my job, band, and starve to death.

Right now I have my acoustic case packed up with clothes and shit, probably gonna hobo for a while in altoona so I dont miss work.
