Post by slackin@dabass »

I remember that thread. I do plan on getting insurance on my gear once I get my new kit in the near future. It is too much of an investment.

Thanks Chad, that's the thread I was talking about.
There's very good and useful info on there, and I highly recommend all of you musicians to take a second and read over that thread if you havent already.

Protecting your investments is always a smart decision.

I work in the insurance biz....zzzzzzzzzz.....but I have learned that you need a personal articles floater for your gear. They look at musical equipment a s HIGH RISK if you're make money off your playing because it's out in places here it COULD get stolen or damaged.

All insurance companies have different policies on musical equipment. Best thing to do is to call whom ever you have and ask them what kind of policy they recommend for a gigging musician who makes money from using their gear.

Please don't call me, during work hours as I am WAYYYY to busy playing Cat Bowling, surfing the net and thinking up stupid topics for forum discussions.

Thank you for calling State Farm.

so from what i understand from this thread is that i'm supposed to call my current provider? of what? auto insurance? i mean, i have no renters insurance, or health insurance or any other kind of insurance, and i don't think safe auto is going to cover my instruments. i also kind of get the feeling that this is going to be way expensive because my gear is used to play out with... any one out there have insurance on their gear that htey play out with? any one have a ballpark figure for what i'm going to pay a month? ugh... i hate insurance.

Safe Auto will not help you my friend. You need to call a company such as ALLSTATE, State Farm, NATIONWIDE etc. They'll point you in the right direction. Renters insurance only covers your belongings where you are renting, as is relatively cheap depending on the amount of coverage you request. Let's say 100 bucks a year. Now, for equipment you may want to get a specific coverage called a FLOATER. I don't know what it would cost because insurance is VERY individual to each person and company. Again, all it'll take is a phone call.

Please hang up and make your call again....

Geting insurance on gear is tough! took me a long time, but my current
insurance company took me on only because i've been a long paying
customer with a good record. You have to get a "marine" policy. I got it
thru Erie insurance. The only thing i can tell you is too shop around and
see if any companies are willing to do a policy for you. only cost me
about $85/yr to insure my stuff. Good luck.
