Curve Sold To Former Owner, Altoona Native

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 – updated: 2:58 am EST December 2, 2008
ALTOONA, Pa. -- The man who brought the Altoona Curve to this region has returned to own the team he started ten years ago.

Curve President Chuck Greenberg announced Monday that he is selling the team back to its original owner, Bob Lozinak, and his family. Lozinak owned the Curve from 1999 through the 2001 season before selling his share of the team in 2002.

Lozinak said the Curve will not leave Altoona. He stressed the importance of remaining an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates after their player development contract ends following the 2010 season.

Lozinak's son, David, will be Chief Operating Officer and will manage day-to-day operations of the team. No general manager has been announced yet.

Greenberg said he was not looking to sell the team. He mentioned both he and former general manager Todd Parnell were looking to become more active in other baseball-related ambitions, but added he would not have sold the Curve except to Lozinak.

Greenberg and Parnell will relinquish their roles with the Curve. However, Greenberg will continue ownership of the State College Spikes and Myrtle Beach Pelicans, while Parnell will still manage daily operations of both baseball clubs.

Under Greenberg and Parnell, the franchise became one of the best in minor league baseball, culminating in 2006 with winning the John H. Johnson President's Trophy as the best minor league franchise.
