Don't Be ADumbass This Winter.

Post by ToonaRockGuy »

Courtesy NPR:

Morning Edition, December 24, 2008 · One man's attempt to speed up snow removal on his back porch seriously backfired. The Massachusetts homeowner hooked up a blowtorch to a 20-pound propane tank and took aim at the ice and snow. In a hot minute, the fire spread to the home's second and third floors causing $30,000 in damage. The Standard-Times of New Bedford reported it took 25 firefighters to put out the flames — no one was injured.

They sell torches with extended handles for burning weeds around farms and such. Its also marketed as a way to melt ice. I wonder if this guy will file a ridiculous lawsuit. Much like the infamous lady that burned herself on McDonald's coffee.

We actually own one of those torches....we use it to burn weeds out of the brick sidewalk. However, we know better not to do it when everything else around it is dry and never point towards the house...duh.

Too bad you have to remove yourself ( whether it be castration or death) from the gene pool to be eligible for a Darwin. Sorry, I read the books and rules lately.

That ranks alongside a few folks I've heard about who tried to quickly melt ice on their car windshields by tossing a pan of hot or boiling water on the windshield - the rapid change in temperature usually shatters the glass!

There is only one possible explenation for that cob web story...

The guy was high as hell and a seed flew outta his bowl and caught the place on fire....

When fire trucks came he was too stoned to come up with a better story...

Hence, the "I was clearing out cobwebs" defense.....

I mean c'mon... Even someone as jaded as me couldn't believe an idiot would be cleaning out cobwebs with a blowtorch... Every one knows that's what 12 gauge shotguns are for..

I do that sometimes, but I start off with cold water, then luke warm, then warmer water. It does work, but you are right about just dumping hot water on it. That would suck!
