PRESIDENT OBAMA
12 NOON ... PRESIDENT OBAMA ! May the wind always be at your back and the sun smile on your face. It's been too long and it's about time.
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

Excellent speech, as to be expected. What the hell was that poem about though?!?! I like to think that I have an aesthetic taste in the written and spoken word, but ugggggg! Captain G., can you shed any light on that thing? What the hell was she talking about?

But at least it's the end of The Reagan Era, so we have that going for us. I listened to Spinnity today for the first time in a while. What a classless piece of sh*t. No grace, and he's already blaming everything on Obama, who at that point had been in office for 3 1/2 hours.--->JMSundercoverjoe wrote:The Socialist States of America start today.

Johnny, the Reagan era ended about 1988, only about 21 years ago. If only Reagan had been a REAL conservative, we would have been better off. He signed way too many spending bills that the Congress sent him.songsmith wrote:But at least it's the end of The Reagan Era, so we have that going for us. If you owe money and are in rough time, the last thing you would do is borrow and spend way more money than you have. But that what this socialist is planning on doing. Nothing good is going to come of that.

Was anyone else disappointed with Aretha? Wow, that was horrible. You'd think she could've made her way through a song that everyone learned in kindergarten.
And what was she thinking during the first line of that song?!?
"My cunt (way too long of a pause) tree tis of thee ..."
I died laughing out loud when she sang that and then of course John Stewart exploited it on The Daily Show later in the evening.

I just watched the song and I thought she did a good Aretha version of the song. Never really cared much for her..
But what I do care about are the words that our president spoke. I am so glad to hear words of hope and optimism and of camaraderie. I am so glad to hear words that try to heal the divide and try to bring us together to make it better.
The words are the beginning, the action has to follow. I believe that this man will do the right things. I believe that we live in the greatest country ever. I believe that even if you don't believe you are still going to reap the benefits.
There is a lesson to be learned here, do we carry the torch of hatred and spit on the words of a nation or can we (i) actually forgive and move forward?
Can we put aside our allegiance's to a direction (left or right) and choose to move ahead?
I am excited to be alive at this point in our history, I am excited to be called upon to help make the changes that will propel us forward into the future. Into a future where people really care more about each other then they do about the year of their car or the color of their skin.
I will let go of the little things that I have often felt compelled to drool over and I will watch the big picture. The big show that is America, my Country tis of thee.
I will work and I will help when called upon to change the face of this old woman that we love. To change the feel of this grand old flag. To keep America Great, to keep this land that allows us to be.
God Bless Barack Obama!
God Bless America!

If you do a little research you'll find that just about every inaugural address, from all of our presidents have words of hope, optimism and camaraderie. But as you said Dave, the action has to follow. President Obama is our leader now. And I will listen and watch this man, as well as pray and hope he does the right thing. Let us not get too caught up in this man's charisma, but let us all watch him and listen to him with a clear and open mind. The American people voted for change, and they got it. Now lets hope we don't change so much, we lose sight of who we are. A free and sovereign nation, like none other in the past or present world.

My "hope" is that Obama is wise enough to understand the role of government under our Constitution and will lead the country forward with responsibility and this understanding.
Unfortunately, the economic plans that I keep hearing about will lead us to the point where, by the end of his term, the interest on the debt will be the largest item on the federal budget. Not only is this a huge waste of future taxpayers' money, it is also the financial point of no return for the treasury.

Hey FB, for future reference, in order for an old sKool quote to be valid and used, it must first be heard by and then laughed at by all members of the band.bassist_25 wrote:"It's hard to cook on the hihats with only one stick. Even Rachel Ray couldn't do that" - old sKool.
Not only did I not hear this one, but I know there were others I did hear that were much more worthy of the distinction. This is not representative of a classic old sKoolism.

Man, I know it's practically heresy to say this, but I really had myself psyched up for The Speech, I was expecting something like his racism speech or his convention speech... but it was pretty ordinary, I'd say.
I laughed at Aretha's enunciation, too. I instantly thought the Daily Show would have a field day with that, and the flubbed oath of office.--->JMS

Oh, and Joe, as of a few months ago, the name "Reagan" was to be mentioned only in hushed tones, and his tactics and policies were the gold standard by which all liberal policies were judged. Now trickle-down theories and laissez-faire deregulation are exposed for the failures they have always been. The Republican party, now suffering the biggest power vacuum in it's history, has no hero. Palin's out there today trying to manufacture a controversy (she says the press is calling her daughter and the baby-daddy high school dropouts... not true, she says, they take correspondence courses... because they both dropped out), but it's a dead issue, like all the others. I hope they trot Mother Of The Year out in 2012. The Dems will bust out the Karl Rove playbook again, and hoist her on her own petard.

change
I want change, I want to change back to AMERICA, land of the free and home of the brave.
I want to open the borders and bring all the people who need work here. I want to tax the hell out of any company that sends work overseas, I want to make AMERICA strong by making things here in AMERICA. I am not afraid to lose my job to someone who works harder then I do. I am afraid to lose my job to someone who works illegally. Is it the fault of the worker or the company who hires them.
I am sorry to say this but all I heard from GWB for 8 years was bullshit that I could smell through the TV. There were no words of hope and unity, that message was "my way or the highway".
That don't work.
I am all for forgiving the past and moving forward as one but that does not mean we make heroes of assholes nor does it mean that we do not learn from the past.
We have to change because we are fucked. The gov will change now cause they don't want to lose their cushy jobs.
And Sarah Palin? Whatever, give me Tine Fey anyday!

Can you please clarify this for me?f.sciarrillo wrote:I want the real reason this country was founded on to come back. Not some hypocritical bs that made it's wave through the centuries.
It's really fucking with me, and I can't stop reading it.
Our country was founded on a reason?
