not sure how rare they are. I've seen other ones. They don't seem very common, but being that the features are only for that year, maybe it just seems rarer than they are. I mean you can't really tell what specific year a lot of basses are from a glance.
No idea if its still there, but there was a 1966 Fender Jaguar in the Guitar Center in Monroeville. Also with dot inlays, and bound neck.
I can't tell. Maybe JP has a higher res photo he would share?
Unfortunately, not any more. The original picture was higher resolution, but I deleted it after I first processed that batch of photos back in October, and the reduced-size shot remains.
You might be able to find out more about Mike Sweeney's bass through Jimmy Adler's website, www.jimmyadler.com. He has worked with other Pittsburgh names such as Billy Price, so you might be able to learn more with some internet detective work.

Yeah I hear ya, that's how some Jackson's are as well. They have some features that are one year only, or one model only and it takes a trained eye to see that.
At first I was thinking, how in the hell can Mitch tell that by looking at it and not having the serial#. Then I thought for a second and realized what you just mentioned here.
How's your Jaguar playing? That's a nice bass man, you should post some pictures of that on here for the kids to see.
its good. I need to find a place for it or get rid of it though. I'm trying to commit myself to owning less basses. I have 8 right now. Speaking of which I have a plan for you to turn one of my unused basses into something awesome. I'll have to talk to you about it.
