That is so true. The media had a lot to do with it. I watched a couple of those interviews with the people who voted for Barrack, none of them knew anything about him, but yet knew everything about Palin and McCain.
The media made a messiah and they got him in. But, they will not get him in next term. As so far him being in office is making things worse. Take a look at the market over the week to see an example.

know what really grinds my gears?
the media at election time. best interview question ever: our viewers want us to move on from the reverend white interview. is that ok with you? it's a topic in need of discussion. they make palin out like a movie star. they make obama the new messiah. i hate to tell you all, but if anything, he's the friggin' anti christ. remember the bible? read revelations and tell me it ain't true. and i'm athiest, just to clear the air about that. i'm promoting no religious doctrine in this post. the media disgusts me, and that's the bottom line.

The partisan conservative media got Dubya elected AND re-elected. They actually convinced people that the Iraq War was a patriotic thing to do. At EVERY juncture, they shifted the spotlight away from Bush's massive failures, and even as the country was sinking to the level it is today, they insisted that Bush was the reason we're doing so well, and that history would prove him to be a great man. They turned the Republican party over to the far-right wing, congratulated Big Business on their "success" and took their daily talking-points DIRECTLY from people like Karl Rove. The authoritarian neocon media's refusal to own up to the last administration's destruction of the US as a superpower is deafening. Instead they blame all our problems on a month-old Obama administration. They did the same when Clinton was elected after Bush 41's inability to accomplish anything. It's all tremendously boring and predictable.
Perhaps I can explain the current state of politics in an easy, soundbite-manageable way:
Last year, there was an election.
Both sides tried their best to eliminate the other side.
America voted.
Obama won the presidency, and the Democrats increased their congressional majority.
The reason was not Obama.
It was George W. Bush.
It left an entire political party in freefall, which continues.
George W. Bush is directly to blame for the conservative fall from power.
There, now hopefully some of you will realize that the Dems could have put Charles Manson up against the GOP, and still won. A presidential election is usually decide by one simple question: Am I better off with the current loser than I was with the loser before him? This past election, we were dealing with the Iraq Debacle, the banking crash, the housing crash, and $4.50 gasoline. The 2000 election we were worried that a president was getting a BJ, and that our retirement fund was down 3%. Seems like the good old days.
And The Antichrist is the curly-headed kid in the Jonas Brothers.

Songsmith, you are still blaming Reagan 20 years after he has been out of office.
For anyone to still claim that there is not a liberal bias to the main stream major media outlets today is quite cute. There is a conservative/Republican media (Fox and radio hosts) and a liberal/Democrat media (EVERYTHING ELSE). The sad part is that there is very little to no objective media left.

That's not true, the media was all about bashing Bush in '04. The entire focus was the Iraq war, but the Dems chose Kerry to run? WTF? John Kerry? and John Edwards??? That's why the Dems lost in '04.songsmith wrote:The partisan conservative media got Dubya elected AND re-elected. They actually convinced people that the Iraq War was a patriotic thing to do. Let me ask you then, why are we still in Iraq now? The savior is in office, and actually sent 17,000 troops to Afghanistan.
The media won this election, that is why the Dems could put someone with absolutely no experience in there. The proof is there, the media is influencing people. You can see it by people saying Palin is stupid, they have no idea why, but the media tells them that, so they listen like the good sheeple they are.
Not necessarily blaming, that's been done. More like not allowing his elevation to sainthood. I'm just pointing out that Reagan ideology was turned down by the American people, and my evidence is the outcome of the last election. You don't have to like it, it's just how it is.--->JMSundercoverjoe wrote: Songsmith, you are still blaming Reagan 20 years after he has been out of office.![]()
We can't just pick up and go home. Believe me they want us to leave. Now we have Iran waiting to fill any vacuum we might leave behind. It was the wrong war then, and remains so.RobTheDrummer wrote:[Let me ask you then, why are we still in Iraq now? The savior is in office, and actually sent 17,000 troops to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, is the right war, and we should have won it a long time ago, but we got caught up in the wrong war elsewhere. Explain to me how sending more troops to go after the real 9/11 perpetrators is a bad idea? In fact, why did we take the war anywhere else?--->JMS

I still wish Ron Paul had run. Then there would have been real choice.
Check out this recent appearance of Ron Paul on the Bill Maher show.

You're missing my point. Bush was a Reaganite, and the last election was a referendum for, or against, Reagan conservatism. The GOP didn't even bother to field a Reaganite presidential candidate, and a Bush endorsement was like being endorsed by the Grim Reaper. Republican candidates of all offices were busily distancing themselves from Bush from the start of the cycle.
The Neo media said the reason the country was in such a mess was because we weren't right-wing enough, but folks seemed to get that the inverse was true, and largely ignored the right-wing machine. That machine is wandering aimlessly with nobody deemed "good" enough to lead it. Will it be Palin?
Gosh, I hope so.--->JMS

Once again your grasp of the Reagan years is elemental at best.As a true left leaning moderate as your-self(and by moderate i mean liberal)you can hardly see the forest from the trees. As that vid points out and i know i'm gonna get set ablaze for this.If it wasn't for the entirely CLUELESS masses such as these fine people and the minority groups that never thought it worthwhile to vote before, the result might have been a tad different....i didn't say better just different. So i say raise a glass in celebration to these folks who didn't even know key players in the party they were voting into power.Cheers.......now there's some folks......if they are indeed literate could probably wade through one of your posts.songsmith wrote:Not necessarily blaming, that's been done. have you seen any of her interviews?! oh but to you that's just clever post editing by the liberal media to make her sound stupid...it's not a conspiracy, she was just a horrible choice. (not that it mattered, as said before, the dems would have won if they put Charlie Manson on the ticket)RobTheDrummer wrote:How do you figure Palin is dumb? I think Obama is dumb. In the office for less than a month and he already increased the deficit by over a trillion dollars!

which folks are we talking about here? the same folks that have no idea who is running congress? or the same folks that do. did you look at the original link? the one where zeigler interviews obama voters? the one that has the percentage of obama voters vs. mccain voters that even knew what their candidate represented? america is stupid. that's why we have the electoral college. unfortunately for the states, the dems had the majority in the electoral college. maybe if these people that ignored the "right wing media" would have paid a little more attention to it, they would know more about the government instead of more about palin's daughter's baby. you can't deny that palin was a target, even though she has much more experience in an executive position than the media proclaimed messiah.

Yea, I never thought she sounded stupid at all. I thought she sounded like she stood up for what she believed and had a strong presence.KyleMayket wrote:have you seen any of her interviews?! oh but to you that's just clever post editing by the liberal media to make her sound stupid...it's not a conspiracy, she was just a horrible choice. They all distanced themselves from Bush because he is not a conservative. He governed like a liberal democrat for domestic issues. Bush is FAR from a Reganite. So my point is: Bush is not a Reagonite, Bush is not conservative. If the Republicans had run a more conservative candidate than McCain (very easy to do, McCain could have run on the Democrat ticket), there would have been a real choice.songsmith wrote:You're missing my point. Do you remember my warnings: Do not vote for a Republocrat, do not vote for McBama????? Whoever won the election was a big government pussy.
Ah, the "True Scotsman" defense. From a story... two Scotsmen are sitting in a pub, one is reading a newspaper. Scot with the paper says, " There's a story here about a man killing his wife in London."undercoverjoe wrote:[
They all distanced themselves from Bush because he is not a conservative.
Proudly, the other one remarked, "No Scotsman would do that !"
The first guy says, "Says here the same thing happened yesterday, right here in Glasgow."
"Aye, but no true Scotsman would do that."
If you have to admit that somebody effed-up, but can't because you'd have to admit you're wrong, you simply change the definition of your statement, and disassociate yourself or your peers. It's a logical fallacy.--->JMS

That's Rush's story, and he's sticking to it. Voter ignorance. Not him.
The far-right wing is welcome to stay the course, politically. It's working very well for them. Everything is going according to plan.
