Who remembers Steve (The Frog Man) Kelsey on WFBG at midnight he would play allnight album rock . It was the first place I heard bands like AC/DC and Judest Priest . You would get points for answering instant request questions witch were tallied all year to crown a King of Rock Knowledge.

I remeber it well....

My first claim to fame was winning the year in points and getting an Autographed "Black Angel" bass guitar.....

Wish I knew where the hell that was, Todd Giornestos signature has to be worth something...... haha....

Tom Keith and I played as "Squealer" a tribute to AC/DC.....

and we hated Jeff McCleave and Randy who were our closest competition....

We used to go to the library and steal rock trivia books in our book bags to have an edge on the competition.. Betcha didn't know All Night Album Rock was why the crime rate in Altoona was so high did you? haha...

Steve has one of the biggest collections of Vinyl that I have seen. He is also a really good guy. I have done some computer work for him and recently he slipped me a mint copy of "Dire Straits - Alchemy"...

might even listen to Froggy to hear Steve,,.. Uhhh probably not though.

Steve's a good friend of mine (even though he's an Eagles fan). We go back to high school years and even then he was on the air. Many times I stopped by the studio, rifled through the huge album/singles collection and pick out songs.

We'd hang out at Steve's house and he would challenge us to a drop the needle (and I ain't talkin smack ) contest. He'd play a couple seconds of a song and see who could name the title and artist. That vinyl collection that was mentioned was already growing.

Bottom line: Everything I'm doing now can be traced back to Steve Kelsey and "All Night Album Rock" for inspiration and planting the seed. Had it not been for that show, I probably would have never started in radio when I began attending Penn State Altoona in 1979 (and started deejaying at the closed-circuit radio station there). Later, it was through getting hired on at WFBG-AM/FM and working alongside Jay Randyll to cohost "All Night Album Rock" that I got hired on as manager and publicist for his band Tommi-Gunn, which led to the start of my monthly articles in Pennsylvania Musician. And it was through my article that I met 'hayf,' who helped me land my current teaching position at Penn State Altoona.

I still communicate with many of the "All Night Album Rock" regulars, especially the guys I competed against in the "Instant Request Contest" such as Randy Loose (who is considering writing a book about the show), Kevin "Gorr" Skelley, Grant Mitchell, Dave Hetzel, "The Beamer" from Juniata (who now lives in Hollidaysburg) and others. I still have my old tapes from that show as well, I'll have to break them out sometime soon!

You guys are going way back. I have fond old memories of WFBG. I don't think it was All Night Album Rock, but I first heard Metallica on WFBG. Plus, Sean McKay cracked me up, and Steve Kelsey DJ'd my wedding (did an outstanding job).

I remember it well. And I really loved as a teen when he DJ'd at our school dances. Steve was always willing to play any and all requests - which included AC/DC - which made the dance monitors (aka nuns, priests and teachers) cringe. I think he secretly enjoyed making the kids happy and the monitors plug their ears and cringe

As a teen, we used to drive from Trough Creek Valley in Huntingdon Co., to the top of Cove Mountain, where we could pick up All Night Album Rock, and listen until we'd be so late my mom would consider calling the cops. A number of times, we'd forget to fire up the car to charge the battery, but luckily, we could coast-start it on the grade.
A bit later, we actually went to the studio and hung out, where I met Jim Price... yep, Jay's probably the first guy I ever knew from Altoona, but JP's the second. They played all the import metal stuff that we thought nobody else in America had ever heard of, so it was nice to know that somebody liked the obscure stuff we liked. They also played local records, probably the first station in PA to do so. That led me to believe that a metal band could get somewhere (airplay was UNHEARD OF for a local act then, and held a great deal of value to a band). I helped form the band, Blytz, sent JP a basement tape for a contest WFBG had, and off we went on a ride that isn't over 25 years later.
If you play in a local metal band, you owe All Night Album Rock, whether or not you ever heard of it. --->JMS

He and Todd Giornesto fell completely off my radar even though I've asked everyone I see about both of them.......

With Big Vin passing away and being the same age as me it sure bums me out to think people who I spent so many goods times with are no where to be found for me....
