Wasn't this before the bailout?

DETROIT – General Motors Corp. posted a $9.6 billion fourth-quarter loss and said it burned through $6.2 billion of cash in the last three months of 2008 as it fought the worst U.S. auto sales climate since 1982 and sought government loans to keep the century-old company running

For the record: I'm against the bailouts.

I still wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see a foreign buyout of the auto industry.

Dude the bailouts were just to reinforce the retirement packages for the execs that will be out of a job when the company goes under.

Thank god our government acted so quickly to shore up those execs or we'd all be in trouble.

:x

I just wish people bitched about the bailouts as much as they bitch about Obama. We might actually get somewhere.

People need to start bitching at the people who started this mess, the shady sub-prime scams and the greedy oil market traders.

AFAIK the first round of bailout money would have been on the 4Q books.

Said they already burned through $4 Billion, they just got the loan and burned through that much already...

From the article:
"GM has continued to spend on a company too big for the market, paying workers when plants are closed and covering other costs such as machinery, marketing, pensions and health care."

Poor management is the problem, throwing money at this makes no sense. They need to declare bankruptcy, re-organize their situation, and come back when they have a business model that will work.

I don't look for there to be an american automaker by next year. They are too big and to bull headed to see that. These bail outs are stupid and are doing nothing but prolonging the end.

Of course they will be back in Washington on their begging for more money here soon - and the government will give it to them. They are a bunch of idiots and with all this money the government is throwing around; we will never get the deficit paid and we will be putting this burden on our great grand kids grand kids.

As I stated before: Welcome To The USSA >>>>

as another note: I also think that money the government gave them was to go to the executives pensions and retirement, nothing more. To prove my point; look at merryl lynch ...

Ford seems to be doing ok. They haven't asked for anything as far as I know. Only GM and Chrysler are continually begging for money. Their Union got them in to this mess in the first place, but they wont make any concessions. I say let them die.

People are bitching about bailouts, just as much as they are about Obama. One and the same to me.

I use to consider us a small business. But I discovered that the definition of small business to the government is those who's owners make under $250,000 a year. (Not the business profit but the owners)

Since then, I've created a new title. Micro Business.

Been searching for information on what type of help will be there for us and the only thing I can find is if you already have a SBA loan, they may be able to give you a 0% 5 year loan to help you catch up. I don't know all of the details yet because the banks don't know it either.

We are all self employed musicians or club owners here and the work for musicians and business for clubs has diminished drastically in this region over the last few years due to the economy and other issues. Wouldn't it be great if Gov. Rendell might give each of us some of the PA stimulus money to keep our businesses going and I guarantee we would be putting the money back into the economy to pay our bills and purchase necessary items.

I did not get any of the stimulus money from President Bush's plan last year because I did not make enough money and was below the income limit. I was not alone. In other words, if you did not make much money and needed it the most, and would have spent the money to purchase goods and services to help stimulate the economy, you did not get anything. Many people who had sizable incomes received $600 a person. I heard Obama already state in a speech that there is no guarantee everybody will receive tax breaks or stimulus checks this year either and if you did not receive a check last year that you may not get one this year.
