I want to add a fog machine into the lighting setup. My light board has a fog control built in, but I don't have the right cord. Does anyone know where I can get the parts to make one?
If I had pics, I'd post them to see what I have. The ends look like male/female ends of your standard amp or other electronic device cord. My goal is to have the fog machine on or near the stage and obviously the board in the booth with me.
Any help is welcome.
Steve
Fog Machine cord?
Fog Machine cord?

Most of the ones I've seen are 5-pin DIN sockets and are identical to MIDI connectors. With the power off, try plugging a MIDI cable into it and if it fits, that's what you need as far as a connector. I'm not sure of the current requirements of fog machine control, but it should be low enough to use a MIDI cable. If not, you will need to make a signal cable with heavier 5 conductor cable.
I'm also not sure what the pinout is, buy my fog machine only uses 3 conductors. 1 ground, 1 to sense that the machine is ready and one to turn on the fog. Some midi cables only have 3 conductors, so to be on the safe side, make sure that your MIDI cable has 5 conductors, one for each pin.

Thanks Jeff, but it a 3-pin config. If you disconnect the removable power cord from your amp, that's the config. I'm dealing with. I think it's commonly referred to as "3-pin IEC." What I have now just plugs into the back of the fogger to work as a remote switch, just not long enough for the layout.

Steve,
What kind of connector is the remote out on the light controller?
I've seen fog machines with the 3 pin EIC remote, but I'm not sure what kind of voltage the remote operates on. Since the remote connector is a 3 pin EIC, I would think that it might be operating on 110VAC.
Unless the output on the light controller is a 3 pin EIC, you're probably going to need some type of interface.
You could just extend the EIC cable with something like this http://www.midweststereo.com/ProductDet ... de=ANTEXT2 and use the remote that came with the fogger.

Ahh, gotcha...thats whats on my fog machine. Each blade measures 120V to the ground stud, but I'm not sure of the current.CMOR wrote:Thanks Jeff, but it a 3-pin config. That connector is called an International Male IEC 320 C14 connector, 3 pin (or 2 pin with ground).
Here, you can import them using Her Majesty's Royal Mail:

Is that what you need on both ends?
Here is a power extension cable that has one of each ends:

Fog machine cord...
Our light guy just took a 50' heavy duty extension cord, cut the ends and wired it up... Works just fine... Never had a problem with it yet...
