Thats one of the many reasons that I will never own a stock Strat.
+ the crappy trem, single coils
+ 2 other knobs that are useless, dont know why they are there??
+ the round neck radius/medium frets/fat neck profile/junk tuners,etc...

(There's more trust me. :lol: )

Strats make a decent starting point for modding a guitar though.

Them thar thangs kalled tow'n nobbs

ahem...

Strats sure do make good project guitars. With a little love, you can have a damn nice strat. See Tech Sector.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

I went over to Robert M. Sides yesterday and was looking at the samicks, schecter c-1, and yamahas they have. I think I like the schecter better. I was also looking at a Tempest BlackJack - Beautiful guitar -> $700.00

i agree 100%

it's been my opinion for a short while that for 470 dollars, a mexi j bass was a good starting point on a modded to hell fender. then the price increase happened. a new mexi j is NOT worth 600 + dollars. just like a mexi strat is not worth 500 some bucks.

sorry fender. buy schecter.

mmmmmmm tempest. i don't know why, but i looooove the way they look. they play and sound great, too, but they look so cool. i dunno, maybe i'm just being shallow, basing my interest on looks :roll:

They do look sexy. I love the design of them. The specs are pretty worthy of that of a gibson also. Mahogany body and such. I think the thing the drew me to it the most was that it wasn't a normal "strat" style body. I am so tired of seeing the strat style bodies. Things like these I think look cool - The Tempest, Stiletto, and Ultra series are pretty neat looking. And that c1 played great ...

2009 Schecter Tempest Blackjack features:

* CONSTRUCTION/SCALE: Set-neck w/ Ultra Access
* BODY: Mahogany
* NECK/: 3 piece maple
* SCALE: 25.5”
* FINGERBOARD: Rosewood
* FRETS: 22 X-Jumbo
* INLAYS: Blackjack Cards “21” at 12th Fret
* BINDING: Grey Pearl
* PICKUPS: Seymour Duncan JB / ‘59
* ELECTRONICS: 2 Vol/2 Tone (tap)/3-Way Switch
* BRIDGE: TonePros TOM w/ Thru-body
* TUNERS: Schecter Locking
* HARDWARE: Black Chrome
* COLOR: Gloss Black (BLK)

the scale length is longer then that of a gibson. actually, scale length is the same as a strat on the tempest. nothing wrong with that, just means it'll have better string tension on lower tunings.

gibson les paul - 24 3/4" scale length

fender stratocaster - 25 1/2"

schecter tempest - 25 1/2"

i'd still go with the tempest if it were me! :D

Except for a lap steel in a Metal band. But that is a cool name. :lol:
I'd play lappy in a metal band. I have a BC Rich Warlock with Bass Pro and other yeehaw stickers on it, that I've played blues and country on (some of those pointy guitars have such warm, thick clean tones!)
You never know, the right guy could find some pretty cool sounds... the sustain and portamento of a fully-gained lap steel over the chug of metal chords... might be the next big thing. Lap steels don't always sound like Hank Williams.
Mine do, though. :lol: --->JMS

Dream Theater has some lap steel going on in a tune or two. Rudess is the man! On this tune:

I play a Gibson Les Paul Studio (very Nice), a Yamaha AES720 which kicks all my guitars butts, and a Ibinez Tribal. They are all nice guitars butt the Yamaha rules on action and sound. It is a great recording guitar too.
