Radio Station Performance Tax Bill
Radio Station Performance Tax Bill
Did you hear about this? www.noperformancetax.org ... there is a performance tax bill in Congress to levy a tax against radio stations for playing music. They're trying to pass the bill in congress. Just another "bailout" money sucking government program, but if it goes through, could be bad for alot of small stations.

Rocky has been airing an announcement on this recently. I haven't studied the particulars, but if this goes through, stations would be paying for each song they play, to help bail out record labels. You would probably be seeing "the last DJ" in a lot of markets if this goes through, as stations would be forced to cut playlists and air staffs further.
I heard that the bill is not expected to pass.

Maybe if record labels weren't running on an archiac business model, they wouldn't need the government to help bail them out.
"People are downloading music. Instead of trying to adapt to the times, let's just try and fight it in court. Yeah, that will save our industry!" BTW, I'm not advocating illegal downloading.
Once other forms of energy become more realistic for mass consumption, it will be interesting to see what lenghts the oil barons will go to maintain their empires in the face of a paradigm.

"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
