Bill, you are such a cool guy, but so wrong on everything you post about on politics. Are you in favor of Benito Hussein taking over the Banking and Automobile Industries? That is pure Fascism, are you OK with that?

What we are seeing is a breakdown in our society--morally and socially. As things get more and more corrupt, it leads to a lack of faith and trust in government. This is a slow process that eventually leads to a breakdown in government and rule of law. Then a society falls and another takes its place. This is the nature of everything, not just governments. For some reason, we think that what we know (our country) will last forever, but the fact of the matter is--it can't. All we can do is do our best to ensure the continued prosperity of our children, but many factors are out of our control. When the Roman empire was on the decline it (barely) kept itself together with something they called Bread and Circus. We're no different. Anyone ever hear of welfare and television?
The founders knew that government--over time--becomes corrupt and must be put in it's place. That's why the constitution allows the right to have militia and bear arms. Our founding fathers came from government structures that were corrupt and unfair and so the founders wanted to ensure that if it ever happened here that the citizens would be able to stop it--by force if necessary.
I'm not saying that our nation will crumble in our lifetimes--but our great government WILL, sadly, fall at some point. It's the way of things.

Songsmith,
Your post about the Bible and the constitution was brilliant.

Interesting times that we're living in.

I agree. We have to be a nation that produces things in order to be prosperous. On the microcosm, look at our local economy. We are a services community. We sell lots of pizza, religion, and social programs--none of which help our local economy to grow and develop. Look around you. We live in a poor and economically depressed area--that's why we don't feel the effects of recessions as bad as everyone else does. We never got out of the recession here! This is what an economy based on services gets you.
Because of outsourcing this is what our nation is becoming. Money needs to be invested HERE for our nation to make long term gains! Sadly, the economic system is based on the stock market which forces businesses to be ever more profitable--and lie if they aren't. One of the best ways to turn a quick profit and get numbers up is to ship production overseas. We are reaping the benefits of outsourcing now.

Good calls, JD. There's an economic theory that deals with how much a country imports vs. exports and how that affects the overall economic well-being of a country. I'm not an economist, so I don't know if it's a valid explanation for much of the problems that we are currently facing. I do know, however, that offshoring is majorily coming around to bite us in the asses. I use to be rather ambivalent about globalization, but as of late, I'm starting to think that it's an overall bad thing.

TALK
in first ten words or less gets the point across.after that its filler, delay and a way to confuse the subject in away to devert the the origal subect into alot of useless chatter in about to BLA BLA BLA GET THE POINT
BUY AMERICAN. BUY LOCAL IF AVAILABLE. GOD BLESS AMERICA

Joe, that was the most self-serving explanation of the disaster I've ever read. "Rove-Republicans wanted to increase Hispanic home ownership." You have got to be joking. How's this for an explanation:undercoverjoe wrote:A good explanation of what went wrong with the economy:

Big Banking slipped a provision into another bill in 2000 that allowed banks to give bad loans to people who obviously couldn't afford them. They could make huge amounts of money by simply selling the risk to other banks, who sold them to others, who insured them at AIG. All went well while the economy buzzed along. Then, $4.50/gallon gasoline brought the economy to a screeching halt, and suddenly people began to realize they couldn't pay for their huge overpriced homes, effectively squeezing the huge pimple everybody could see, but had been ignoring. It was decided that Big Banking was"too big to fail" and we the people had to give them a trillion dollars.
It's okay, though. In November, moderates and liberals got together and ousted the far-right, who had always preached that the way to success is to further enrich the rich despite the inescapable FACT that rich people caused the problem in the first place (note that the areas hit hardest by the current recession are all affluent. Poor people don't buy McMansions). Shortly after the inauguration (as in 2 hours), the far-right realized they were about to spend some quality-time in the bed they had been pissing in for the last 8 years, catch-words like "socialism," "fascism" and "tyranny" became part of the talk-radio lexicon. It should be noted that many of the far-right's heroes spent money like a drunken sailor, and bailed-out corporations, so that argument sags under it's own weight.
Anyway, the wingers now control the media (far-left AND far-right), and each side beats it's tiny little drum as loudly as they can, inspiring Tea(r) Parties and EVEN MORE conservative thinktanks (huge contradiction in terms

Now you're up to date. You're welcome.

Sorry Johnny, but I will take Pat Buchanan over your hate the rich explanations any day. Bush continued the Socialism this country has been mired in since FDR, but now this president has taken us into Fascism faster than Benito Mussolini did with Italy in the 30"s. When the government starts giving marching orders to the mortgage, banking and now automobile industries, it is Fascism, even if you do not like the sloganeering. I do not get my catch phrases from radio (I am convinced you listen to Rush much more than anyone I know) but from history, and the Fascism take over going on here right now is historic.songsmith wrote:Joe, that was the most self-serving explanation of the disaster I've ever read. I probably do. You have to look at all sides to make a judgement. I did finally quit the Spinnity show, though. Too much Tokyo Rose-style propagandizing. "All we ask is 3 hours a day, 5 days a week." All the extremists need is your unerring, unflinching servitude.undercoverjoe wrote:[ (I am convinced you listen to Rush much more than anyone I know) .
You get taken to task because you regularly discuss exactly what was the talking points for the day on talk-radio. It's a common disease out in the wings.
BTW, is it fascism when you take over another country and install your own preferred form of gov't? How about when you listen in on phone calls and e-mails? When you suspend habeas corpus? Nope, that's patriotism!--->JMS
