What can you say?
What can you say? How many people really want to spend more to get the same?
Problem here is that the economy is global and the typical American thinking is "we want the best deal". I have talked to a lot of people who can't even bring a factory into the area because they can't make any money when you factor in pay, insurance and all the other crap.
So what happens? People buy what they can afford. That is why Walmart is where they are.
How do American factory's compete? They don't, they move overseas.
I have seen this and I don't really know how it is going to get remedied until the American workforce can and will work for the same cost as the Chinese or Mexican workforce.
Problem there is that the cost of living in America is different. Hate to say it but it does not look good. We can't compete in production.
So where does that leave us?

Well long story made short we have lost our Auto suppliers to mexico and china and I know this first hand. raw plastic 
GE lexan now sabik saudi arab(2006) DU Pont is the only one left in the USA and some small indies supply is drying up prices are increasing. people wont be going to wally world when they have no money because they have no INCOME

It will only get worse till either government evens the odds by placing an import tax or people wise up and realize there will be no jobs left if we send them all overseas. It is hard to buy American but you can still get most things made in the US if you look.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.
But the question is this: IS the American made product any better? Or is it just a matter of loyalty to country that makes someone THINK it is?
I'm all for supporting my fellow Americans in the workforce. But if I'm going to pay for it, it better be worth it. I've seen the union mentality in action close up in certain places. "I'm not doing that, it's not my job" or find convenient ways to disappear before quitting time to stand around and screw off until the whistle blows....and these people make high wages for this? If you want a competitive product, put something into it to make it competitive...including a little pride. Give me a reason to spend the extra dollars, and not just because it says "Made In The USA." Unfortunately, seeing what I've seen in the past sours me on it. I've bought American made stuff that's lasted half as long, and bought foreign made stuff that's every bit as good and it's still working for me today. And sometimes, it's the reverse. A lot of us have uttered the phrase "Cheap Chinese junk!!"
Bottom line: I look for products that work, work consistently, and are at a fair price. If it says "Made In America" on it, so much the better. Someone cares enough to turn out a good product. If it says "Made In China" and gives me the same durability, then so be it.

Everyone takes it so lightly but it is truely going to be the end of the good ole USA. Walk through the clothes and the shoes in Wal-mart. Every stinking piece of it is made overseas doesn't that make anyone else sick ?

Like I said before, I'll support the American workforce any chance I get. But I'm not busting my ass 14 hrs a day to keep buying something time and time and again if it's just plain crap just because it has our flag on it. That's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Very good points!!!! Another reason they can produce so cheap is that they don't have the emmissions/ anti polution rules. I understand your points. Japanese products are good, they are a somewhat civilized country. Mexico is so so. China is pure evil try to avoid their products whenever possible. If you just look a little before you buy you might find a few instances where you can spend a few extra dollars and help a fellow american keep working. I don't know what you do but the more manufacturing jobs there are the more construction, service and luxury jobs there will be and the more money you will make, then maybe you won't have to work 14 hrs to get by. Actually, I drive a triaxle dump truck. Coal mostly, but stone also. 14 hrs is a long day. These days, it's actually more like 10 -12. The power plants are cutting back on their coal intake because they're almost too full...they're only allowed to have so much lying around. They're not producing as much electricity because so many places have either cut back hours or closed entirely. Stone isn't moving well, either...it's just become too expensive. The usual people like PennDOT and paving companies are still buying, but I haven't delivered a house load since...wow, I can't remember.
Sadly, we've done this to ourselves. Steel was king in Pittsburgh & Johnstown at one time. But because people demanded more money, more benefits, more, more, more....they had to raise the overall cost of the product and it became more expensive. Who wants a roll of steel at $5,000 (and that's a totally generic number) when some other country makes for $2,000?
We would all like to be paid what we think we're worth. And yes, benefits are VERY important. But we've dug ourselves into a very deep hole and there's so many cracks in the dam to fix. Health care and pharmaceuticals are a big crack. We have to learn to stop wanting more and appreciate what we have...and stop buying above our means. People won't work menial jobs because it's beneath them. I know someone right now who's riding the unemployment train and refuses to work lesser paying jobs. "I have this to pay for, I have that to pay for. I can't live on that." Well, try this: sell what you REALLY DON'T NEED. Why do you HAVE to have that really huge flat screen TV?? Oh, a 19 inch regular TV isn't enough to watch the big game on? I think it has to be this way for awhile...live on bare minimum. We need to slow the hell down, swallow our pride, and instead of taking advantage of the systems get off our asses and work. There are people on welfare who are perfectly capable. Shut the system down. Work, or do without. Period. Cold & cruel? Maybe...I don't think so. We've become fat and complacent. Time for a good swift kick in the ass.
