Local Holiday Music
I'm toying with the idea of a holiday recording. I was wondering if there have been any local holiday CDs released in the area.

My husband has three holiday CDs for sale. They are all instrumental arrangements of songs that are in public domain. He has one of them for sale at CD Baby . . . .we had to make sure they were in public domain before they would sell it for us which was sort of a pain. Our next step was to do one with vocals but he must have lost interest in it.
I think Dave Distefano did one with various artists in Johnstown that was really cool . . .Johnstown Good Time Christmas or something like that. You could do one for the Altoona area or wherever you are from, a collaboration . . depends on if you want to make money off of it or not. Splitting profits up 10-12 different ways wouldn't make sense. My husband has had his on CD Baby for 2 years now and he's only sold 2 CDs. Basically they are just for warehousing and shipping, you have to promote it yourself. When we promoted it in town, we sold a lot but it was just word of mouth. There are no music retail stores anymore around here. Just Records Off the Wall and FYE.

There have been several local holiday CD's released over the past few years. One of the most popular continues to be Zupe's Christmas Piano. As 4_the_pocket said, the Lords-A-Leaping CD's are all good, and they're talking doing a fourth CD for this upcoming holiday season. In a less reverent vein, Emily's Toybox has done at least three different Christmas-themed CD's. Sterling Koch put out a solo Christmas album a few years ago. Pittsburgh's B.E. Taylor has put out a couple. And there have been several regional Christmas compilation CD's done over the years, including The Central-PA Christmas Compilation in 2005, which featured Christmas tunes from Emily's Toybox, Negative Space, Poptart Monkeys, the Jellybricks and more.
There have been enough local recorded Christmas tunes issued in the past decade that I can do an entire two-hour Christmas edition of the "Homegrown Rocker," and a few new local Christmas tunes usually show up every holiday season to keep the show fresh.

If this happens, I would love to do a song or two for a Christmas album. Sounds like a good time.

All the bands on the Rockpage could get together and redo "Don't They Know Its Christmas" "We Are the World", sell the hell outta of it and make us all rich
