hey need some honest opinons here
i am a lead vocalist in an altoona area band. well when i formed the band my guitar player and i were the vocals for all our songs. he left early in the spring due to personal issues and i changed the line up to female/ male fronted vocalists. my guitar player recently came back and he wants to kick out my co-vocalist. the rest of us aren't on board with this decision. what is the best thing for me to do?
please help!
please help!
hi everyone
Did he leave saying he'd be back after he got his issues worked out or that it was just temporary?
If not, I'd say too damn bad. Do what's best for the band, man. You don't divorce a chick, then want to get back together with her after she's remarried.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts.Tegamal wrote:Did he leave saying he'd be back after he got his issues worked out or that it was just temporary?

Old guitar player can be roadie.

If you seemed confused about this let me see if I can help out.
The first guitar player left and then the replacement guitarist left and then the first one came back.
While I accept the fact that he was one of the orginal members of the band, he was well aware of the new lineup and the changes WE made. He was all for it or so he said.
I offered to step aside to avoid conflict and all the BS, however the other 3 members of the band said they wanted me to stay. A band should be a democracy and as far as I am concerned, WE all have a voice in what goes on. I am not sure if it is an ego thing with this 20-yo or what. All I know is that while WE were deciding about opening for another band, he was all for what WE discussed, we went back and started going over the setlist and jammed like we had been together for awhile. I thought things were fine until about 4 hrs after practice and I asked the question.
If it is a "star" thing, he needs to hold on because I dont think there are any stars in a band, except the band. I could go on, but I have rambled enough about it.

It's seems simple enough to me based on what's been said. He (the guy in question) left, returned and agreed to the current program. Even so, Jeff tried to make sure everyone was still on board (very nice of you to go the extra mile). If the returning guitarist is all of a sudden having second thoughts then he should step aside. If there is a pending gig or several pending gigs that are reliant upon his participation, he should honor the dates first, then step aside. That is the adult way to handle it. Otherwise the drama will continue and eventually drive a bigger wedge between current members.
Just my two cents worth.

Thanks for the kind words T@rgetDrone. Again, I offered to step aside from the project to keep the peace. I knew something was up and asked the question. My co-vocalist did not have to tell me what was said. She was very kind in letting me know what was going on, even if she did hesitate at doing so. I thank her for it. I had a hard time dealing with this and lost sleep over it because I was trying to figure out what the hell I had done. But the backing of the three other members of the band and their votes of confidence made me feel better. I am not sure how this is going to work out and honestly I hope he straightens out and remains, if not then that is the way things go.T@rgetDrone wrote:It's seems simple enough to me based on what's been said.
