Billy Squire is totally underrated, IMO. I'm a huge fan of his material.

I have to admit that I dig Pokerface by Lady Gaga. What can I say? It has a hook.
We just learned Poker Face and I wasn't sure at first but it is growing on me. Too many words in the verses and then that dumb rap in the middle made for many a brain fart while I was trying to learn it.

Oh and I'll give a shout out to Free Bird. (I hate when people say it in the crowd cause it's shouted out at every show but I really do like the song.)

I'm with you on that one, lol. I like all of their music.

Dayzichick, have you heard Chris Daughtry's acoustic version of "Poker Face"?? Check it out, it might give you some ideas for the version you're working on.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

Dang...just one? How many times have I said "I LOVE this song!" and gotten
"that look"? ALOT!

Usually, it's a GoGos or Flock of Seagulls tune or something that surprises...
Heard some of "THE DIAMOND" playing when we were setting up last Saturday.
Yep...I was diggin' it.

OH! Two that came up recently that SherK.'s thought I was kidding, both among
my favourites:

"Natural Woman" by Aretha
"Too Late" by Carol King

INCIDENTALLY, these happened at different times, but both were written or
co-written by King. Great songwriter.

Jazz standards are about my favourite thing to listen to and a lot of those may
fall under that category for many people. Granted, some of the lyrics might
seem "quaint" nowadays, but that's even part of the appeal... Besides, don't
sound like an obnoxious 14 year old wrote the words.

I'm pretty ranged and eclectic with my music (although most people I know would swear that metal is the ONLY thing I know...), but for those who don't know, and for the record, seeing as I don't really have any GUILTY PLEASURES,...

Jewel
Sarah McLachlan
The Cure
Donna Lewis
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Elton John
Chicago (my father STILL listens to a LOT of Chicago, even to this day)

And one song on my playlist that may throw EVERYONE off,...

Spice Girls - 2 Become 1

1) Etta James -- At Last (beautiful song with a premise that speaks to my situation)
2) Rufus feat. Chaka Khan -- Tell Me Something Good (bootknockin' music)
3) Roger Miller -- Doo-Wacka-Do (cute song, EXTREMELY well-written, very playful)
4) Various artists -- bad local gospel on Saturday morning radio (Yeah, that's a weird way to put it, but there's almost a subgenre of Southern Gospel in the Appalachians wherein a family plays on a local radio station for 15 minutes. Usually the mother sings a bit flat on the lead or baritone, and the son plays simple guitar fills, while a generally-embarrassed teen daughter sings tenor. They always do songs you'd hear Sunday morning anyway, standard hymns and older Southern Gospel. I used to have to listen to the Martinsburg AM station on Saturdays, and over the years, it's become quite an influence... no, I don't sing off-key, I slightly flatten the baritone part and add a bit of nasality to my voice. Added to a high-lonesome vocal harmony, it seems to produce overtones that are pleasing, almost like a slight overdrive on a guitar sound. We don't do that alot, but it works when we do.)--->JMS
