I did not know that credentialed degrees were so important to you. By your measurements, Michael Savage would be the best radio show host with his 2 masters degrees and a PhD.bassist_25 wrote:Excellent analogy, except Dr. Phil did indeed finish an accredited graduate program in clinical psychology, whereas Limbaugh dropped out of college yet is seeminly an expert on everything. Hey, it's kind of like Rockpage!ZappasXWife wrote:Rush Limbaugh is to political journalism/discussions as Dr. Phil is to psychology. How's that one, bassist_25?Lately, I've been wondering where everyone's been getting their Juris Doctors from, because we seem to have a lot of people who fancy themselves lawyers on here.
Granted, I guess Dr. Phil's still better than another talking head, Dr. Laura, who, while has a legitimate doctorate, has it in a completely different field unrelated to the field in which she tries to establish herself an expert. Trying to establish her credibility with the "Dr." title would be like me reading off my professional curriculum vitae over the mic before starting a gig.
I'm sure Michael Savage could do an excellent radio program on ethnomedicine. Umm...that was my point.undercoverjoe wrote:

That point was only made for Dr. Laure, not Rush or Dr. Phil. So sorry I did not get your point, next time be more specific and give 2 examples of your point and one meaningless example.bassist_25 wrote:I'm sure Michael Savage could do an excellent radio program on ethnomedicine. Let me delineate it for you. ZappasXwife made an analogy of Rush to journalism and Dr. Phil to psychology. I pointed out that Dr. Phil, while a bit of joke, at least has the proper credentials to speak credibly about many of the subjects that he does (albeit, he currently does not hold his license, but he has been licensed). Rush, on the other hand, speaks on a myriad of subjects as though he is an expert, yet he's often out of his element. I then made a crack that a lot of Rockpagers do much of the same thing; armchair lawyering is a perfect example. I then went on to say that Dr. Laura falls somewhat in the Rush category in that she tries to establish her professional credibility in the clinical/counseling field with the "Dr." moniker. She does have a legitimate doctorate, but it's mostly unrelated to what she tries to do with her pop psychology solutions. I then went on to make the analogy that it would be the same as me announcing my day gig credentials before taking the stage.undercoverjoe wrote:That point was only made for Dr. Laure, not Rush or Dr. Phil. I guess there will be a lot less posting on RP now that it is established by you that one need only post on topics where they have credentialed expertise.
How were you able to post about radio talk show hosts? What exactly is your expertise on the subject?

I was doing what is called an ad hominem. You should be very familiar with ad hominem arguments. It's what you do when you realize that someone actually thinks differently than you, and you don't have an actual argument with any substance...so basically, it's about 98% of what you post. Wow, they say that "game recognizes game," but apparently "ad hominem doesn't recognize ad hominem." For an example, go back through all of your post. The fact that "you" is the second most used noun in all of your arguments - the most used noun being B. Hussien, of course - is a good indication that you're using an ad hominem.
As far as my expertise on speaking on radio hosts - I guess I'll walk out to the pumpkin field and visit that strawman. I can talk about radio hosts because they are prevalent in the media. However, other than an occasional "Forever sucks," when JP or Kevin gets laid off, I will not talk about the radio and broadcasting industry because I am not knowledgable enough about such a subject to speak noetically about it. If a talking head, though, speaks out of his or her ass on a subject that I am credible about, then yes, I'm going to call that person out on it. The fact that they are in the broadcasting industry, which is an industry I know little about, is negligble when considering speaking on air about a subject they do not fully know or understand. Likewise, I wouldn't tell a general contractor how to build a house, but if that person has no musical background what so ever but talks as though he or she wrote the history of bass guitar, then I'll speak up. Dig?
