the NHL will cave.

The loss of revenue from Alex Ovechkin alone would be too much for the league to handle. Not to mention the backlash from the pens, the caps, the red wings, and any other team that depends on their russian players.

also, I totally believe Malkin and Ovechkin when they say they will play no matter what the league says, and the league would be stupid not to believe them as well.

We have yet to lose a really dominant player to the KHL (by which I mean anyone who is actually good and not old), and as soon as we do, there will be outrage from owners, fans, and the media.

I don't really see this as a problem for the fact it's every players dream to represent their country esp. IN their country that year. I don't look for there to be as big of an uproar as people propose.

I totally agree with you on this. I only hope he can work it out where he stays in the NHL and can play for his country in the Olympics ..
