With his goatee shaved off and his new, greenish prison issue -- former New York Giant Plaxico Burress posed for his mug shot after being sentenced to two years in the hoosegow.

For owning a gun?

He was a truly stupid ass to shoot himself in the leg, but he is going to jail for owning a gun. I thought there was this Second Amendment to the Constitution or something out there?

Yeah your allowed to own a gun of course. He didn't own it legally for one. He makes millions, you mean to tell me he could't go get a registered gun and get a permit to concel? Yet he was in NYC. Look at the law.

Any normal citizen would have got FIVE years minimum for doing that in NYC. Especially a night club. Get with the program mcfly

They got him for owning an illegal gun, meaning he didn't have a permit. They also charged him with discharging a firearm in public. Serious offenses in NYC.

*Cue 10 page political discussion/flamewar/pissing match on gun ownership*

Well, might as well post it now to get it out of the way...

Hardly anybody can get permit in NYC, one of the most liberal enclaves in this country.

Discharging it and shooting himself is indefensible, but he should be allowed to own a gun. Just a few weeks before this happened, one of his teammates was held at gunpoint and robbed. I would not go to NYC without carrying.

well he had a permit for the gun...the permit was registered in Florida and to own a permit in new york he had to have the permit in new york.

Exactly my point, it is way too hard to obtain a permit in NYC, I think I read where only 300 people have a permit in a city of almost 10 million.

He is in jail for daring to own a gun in a liberal city.

Plaxico;s mug shot

Post by joltinjeff »

Here is another rich athlete who thinks that because he makes millions of dollars a year for catching a ball and acting like an ass on and off the field can do whatever he wants.
I am glad Roger Goodell is Commissioner of the NFL, now maybe some of these jerks who think their shit dont stink will realize they have a responsiblilty not only to the team and organization they play for, but to the millions of high school and little kids who imitate them by acting all cocky and celebrate when they score. That is not sportsmanship, that is showing off and every professional athlete is guilty of it.
I didn't feel sorry for Vick, OJ or do I feel sorry for Burress. Good for them!!!

No, he's in jail because he broke the law.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/permi ... tion.shtml

He could have applied for a permit online.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
