It's hardly worth the time, but...The 40,000 death from no health insurance number (actually 45,000) comes from the American Journal of Public Health.

The article was written by David Himmelstein, a well-known single-payer health insurance advocate. He the founder of Physicians for a National Health Program. No disclosure of Himmelstein’s bias or association is made in the study or the media release. See Bill Moyers’ interview with Himmelstein at http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/05222 ... file2.html

Some other flaws in this statistic...

"The researchers essentially assume that lack of health insurance at the time of interview is the causal factor in the deaths that occurred. No data was gathered to back up this assumption."

"None of the data collected during the interviews, including insurance status, was validated by the researchers.

The stuff in quotes came from junkscience.com. This biased statistic is a great example of how the government (and rockpagers) use lousy statistics to back up their points.

What does any of this stuff have to do with the original topic?

The facts ARE (regardless of said statistic) is that people are dieing because of a lack of proper health care. And they are dieing because it's all about the dollar. Lack of jobs is a major contributing factor. The industrial giant China has siphoned off jobs with low labor and slave labor.

If the dollar were strong and there were plenty of jobs and the insurance companies were fair, we would have no need for health insurance reform.

The report was written by the Cambridge Health Alliance. A group of three hospitals that work hand in hand with Harvard Medical School. They are a combination of public / private hospital entities.

When was the government deemed responsible for the bail outs of corporations and banks in the constitution?

I know you well Rob. If I were to see you in person you would say, "I was just trying to start something".

No where is the government going to pay your bill. Unless you have flood insurance. Have you read the whole thread ?

It seems that the government will only help those who help them. Hence Obama and wall street. Give him the campaign contributions and he will set you free. All the politicians are like that. Left, Right, ALL OF THEM.

Either way you look at it, though, bailing the banks out is a big mistake .. Can any one here speak chinese?

I liked the idea of having anyone who is on assistance come and mow my lawn. Hmm .. Maybe I would be able to fire Ecuardo and send him back to Mexico then ?

Forcing everyone to work is Communism. Move to Russia.

We were in debt to China big time well before Obama.

If the banks and Wall street collapsed, you would be standing in a bread line right now.

And you are finally right about something. Lobbying is legalised bribery.

not just china has taken our jobs... india, korea, vietnam. the real question is, why are all these companies moving over seas to find cheap labor. i thought there were rules and regulations. oh wait, now i remember... bill clinton happened. and let's face it, the value of the dollar is only going down because the fed thinks they can just print more when we don't have enough. it's awsome. i think if i had my own money press, i'd do the same thing... but it's cool, cause i could print as much worthless money as i want...

The real question is whether it is the government's responsibility to provide all of the needs for the people OR to create opportunities for people to provide for themselves (PURSUIT of happiness, anyone?).

It is a terrible tragedy when people are hungry or hurt or alone.

With all this talk of welfare, social security, and government healthcare; why isn't human companionship being addressed? Isn't companionship one of our most basic human needs? What is the government doing about that? Screw health care, I know people who are lonely and want to get their freak on. What has our government done for their basic needs lately?

Let's go Democratic Party! match.gov!

It's only a matter of time...

Hawk if 40,000 people are dying from a lack of health care, then 2,360,000 people are dying from having health care. 2.4 million people die each year in the US. Seems to me that better odds favor lack of health care. FACT.

On a positive note, a weak dollar makes US exports more attractive. Assuming the government doesn't suck up all the investment capital, this could provide a boost to manufacturing. A boost in manufacturing jobs might have the effect of stabilizing the economy, the exploding government deficit (a 200% annual deficit increase since the porkulus act) and ultimately the dollar.

Sadly, it may take a generation for the dollar to fully recover.

The US public has realized its time for austerity measures with increased savings and decreased consumption. Now its time for the government to respond in kind with one simple act:

Repeal the remainder of the porkulus act.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

Ok you fuckers have me fired up now. Lets focus on Pa. These retards have been arguing for months over a state budget and can't seem to get it done. What is there to argue about? Which monuments to power wash the pigeon shit off of first? Call MJB, I'm sure he would do it for a great price. There wasn't hard. Which Pro sport team do we allocate money to for a new stadium? Fuck them, let them pay for it themselves. It's a game people and it has filtered down to the local scene. Blair Co. has to borrow money to " Keep the city running ". Well great, now that we are all not out spending that " Stimulus Money " on LCD big screens and four wheelers they will now force you to spend it on increased taxes. Great plan!!!! How about the brilliant " Cash for Clunkers " plan. Lets entice people who can't afford to buy a new car into buying a new car with a fake ass rebate on an overpriced piece off shit that will end up leaving you on the Beltway broken down. Then the vehicle that you turned in is crushed buy a machine that was purchased in China and then the scrap metal is shipped to another country to help finance their war efforts against the USA. In the mean time some fuck stick wreaks into your 2 - 5 year old vehicle and the insurance co. informs you that they are totaling said vehicle because no new or USED parts can be found. Mean while Hasan the tank commander is cruising the sand flats in an Armored Escapade shooting at your relatives because they are a " peaceful people ".

My solution as Pres. :
Pull the troops out of the Middle East. One month max. No bullshit 18 month pull out that will stretch to years. What you can ship in a month, blow it the fuck up. Costs to much to ship. Did it in 'Nam. You don't sell us oil for a fair price you get no corn, wheat, etc. The money saved from not being at war would pay for everyone's med. ins. that had none.
Futher more my "Cash for Clunkers" plan would have been called " Clunkers for Bunkers". Sell the vehicles to the Middle East fuckers and insert an explosive devise with a remote detonator. When the Taliban ends up with the vehicle ( and you know they will ) .... Need I spurt more.

 Funny stuff spinmiesterjoe

Over 60% of bankruptcies are results of medical bills.

People who get sick and have no health insurance wait until it's too late to go to the hospital, then they die. As apposed to those that have health insurance and get proper treatment. Everyone eventually dies, just too many do so before they should.

Now I know funnyjoe knew this. I had to spell it our for f. funnyjoe just likes to play games.

Yes, only 40,000 per year die from lack of health insurance and 2,360,000 die with health insurance. Better off without health insurance. FACT.

I'm ok with a public option IF it doesn't mean paying more taxes. Paying for everyone else is really getting old. Also, I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't cover illegal aliens.

The thing about us Americans is that we are at our best when we're down.
