I've lived under the poverty line all of my life, including when I was in college and graduate school. Don't be such a fucking martyr. Wanna bitch? This is why I rarely post on this site anymore. It's just a bunch of crybabies and people who aren't even really associated with the music scene pissing and moaning. No wonder there are hardly any legitimate musicians at this board anymore. Only a topic about Oprah leaving her show could turn into a political pissing contest on Rockpage.

+1
you'd rather talk about ophra?
If I had to choose between politics and Oprah, Oprah wins in a landslide. This thread could've been about the absolutely anything, and sadly it will get hijacked and turned into a political pissing match.

I agree with your second paragraph for the most part. Especially the last sentence. It sucks when you're reading about Oprah or something and you eventually hit "Obama's a crook" or "Bush is a moron." Someone will squeeze it in to be sure. That's why I wish the politics would stay in the political threads. If you want to read it or not, that's your choice. Now, I have to ask, what's your definition of a legitimate musician? I've been playing since 1980, just not in the last three years. Does this disqualify me from being a legitimate musician? There are probably quite a few non-jamming people who post on RP, or at least visit. I feel it is absolutely their right to do just that. You must remember that the non-legitimate musicians are still paying to see you guys play. If it weren't for them, you may not have been able to better yourself. Also, the non-legitimate musicians are not always the biggest assholes on here, either. There's at least three regular posters on RP that I would never go to see their band just because they are such absolute douche bags.

I am not saying I dont like Obama because he is black. I do not like him because he continues to find ways of making this country worse. As a vet, you still hold that oath close to you to protect, honor and serve the Constitution of the US, but when my commander-in-chief makes it tough for me to make my bills and wondering if I am next for the soup line, I really feel uncomfortable.
Joe Biden and the other DEMS remind of of Kevin Bacon in "Animal House" crying "Remain calm! All is well!" Looked what happened to him.
But, Oprah is smart and has her billions, she lived the American Dream. God Bless Her anyway.
Has it really been so much harder for you to make your bills in the last 11 months compared to the last four years? Yeah I didn't think so.
Do you know me and my financial situation? Do you know what my family goes through? Do you even have one iota of what has happened to me? The answer is simple NOO!
Where is the great stimulus package that YOUR president promised? At least Bush sent the one he promised out to try to kick start the economy. Obama's has gone to companies that use illegal aliens and not kicked started this economy one freakin bit.
Yeah, we all struggle and everyone wants to point fingers at the other guy and blame someone else. While I have learned to live within the means of my wife's and my incomes, its still a struggle. We have bills that need paid, we have three kids that need fed, clothed and whatever else. We have to spend money on groceries just like everyone else. Sure there are people out there a lot worst off than I am, but at least I try to do this. If you are a college student, dont talk to me about struggling. Do not come to me and tell me how bad you have it. You dont have to pay rent or worry about getting a meal. You dont have the responsibilities that some of us in here do. Listen buddy, I honestly don't give a shit about you or your situation. I'm a married father of two with a mortgage. I work a blue collar job as mechanic. I get my bills paid pretty easily, and business has been pretty damn good this last year as opposed to the prior few. So I really don't want to hear your bawl baby shit about Obama making it so fucking difficult for you to make your bills.

Business is good for you because everyone's car is breaking down, I don't think the President has anything to do with that :D

Good points. I hope that I wasn't coming off xenophobic or saying that non-musicians shouldn't post here. It's just irritating that there are a lot of people who really aren't involved in local music at all as musicians, fans, sound engineers, club owners, etc. but yet constanty post bullshit here. But hey, it's not my board, and it's up to me whether or not I want to hang around. Hence, why I haven't been very active on here as of late. :D

p.s. The more I think about it, there are quite a lot of cool people who still post on RP. They just get lost in the shuffle of the aforementioned peeing contests.

Don't be so sure! Cash for Clunkers could have seriously screwed you. Then you'd be here bawling along with all of the other tin foil hats about how Obama's destroying the world with his Stalinist agenda.

I been around this stuff all my life. Practically everyone in my family has been or still are in a band or record in the studio. I do admit that I have been getting carried away with the political stuff lately, I will try and slack off it a little bit ...

Hmmm, last time I checked college wasn't cheap whenever you’re paying for it on your own. Books alone are $500-800 per semester. My rent per month in State College for one bedroom comes out to be $500 with $80 in utilities. Parking downtown is $60-80 per month. Your right, the only thing I don’t pay money for is my food being I live close to home. Oh yeah college tuition, how could I forget? I only racked up $75,000 in loans so far. College doesn’t have any responsibilities does it? ;) Damn jackass. Here’s an idea, get out of Altoona and go where the economy might be "a little" better, unless you want to work for the all the wonderful retail stores in the area.

So I paid close to 100k for 5 years. And you’re right, I am getting an education. See with my degree I have the option of going wherever I want without having to worry about struggling. Not bad for a punk ass kid huh?

Oprah leaving her show

Post by joltinjeff »

First, I grew up on welfare all my life until I left for the Army!
Second, I am in a band and if you dont know the name it is NO GUARANTEE!!!
Third, I was wrong to say the things I said and I do apologize. I can man-up about those things.
Fourth, your right I dont know your situation, but then again you dont know mine. By the way, I do pay my bills and make my bills on time, just dont have a lot extra cash right now!! Just like everyone else I would imagaine.
Finally, I made the Oprah/Obama reference in part because if I remember right, she was his biggest fan and treated him like the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. That just doesnt wash with me.
As for politic threads, NO MORE I AM FINISHED! I forgot that I spent 10 years defending this country and I am not allowed to voice my opinion with the rest of you!

Its actually only this country, and it is probably more of a Maoist agenda. So many of his White House staff are self avowed Mao followers.

Yeah, everybody knows Reagan was the Second Coming. He was lucky enough to get wingshot early in his term, and combined with some Obama-esque speechifyin', he hoodwinked the wingleberries so bad, they thought he actually was resposible for the Berlin Wall coming down. (Hint: The USSR was completely bankrupt by then, fighting in Afghanistan, and Hungary had already opened it's border with both E. Germany and W' Germany. People just walked around the Wall. Reagan? Not!) The far-right still worships him, WRTA had a positively masturbatory retrospect on the anniversary of the Wall's demise.
The similarities between Big Bad Obama and Reagan are uncanny.
The similarities between Oprah and myself are also incredible. Both of us are overweight, middle-aged, and prefer p*ssy. --->JMS

OK so I see the similiarities - between Ronny Raygun and Okra. I also have similiar attributes as you both, im overweight and love THAT too!
I cry "uncle" because I am too tired, too old, too freakin blind ... opps thought I was Al Pacino there for a sec, to fight anymore. So all you young ppl go and fight the good fight, while us old men will dream dreams and remember the days of our youth.

I thank anyone who served this country, especially in a combat role. However, you don't have to qualify yourself with your service with every post on Rockpage. I don't remind everyone how long I've been playing bass or gigging everytime I make a post about music. Here's a hard lesson about life that you should know by now: Regardless of your education, socio-economic background, prior employment history, or just about anything else, nobody in this world owes you anything. And yes, aside from a little heavier consideration in employment selection, particuarly for government jobs, that includes military service.
