WOW - Any of you remember Rock Band "Blue Ash" ?

Post by Hawk »

They use to draw huge crowds in Altoona at the Penn Alto Hotel Ball Room. And Packed the house at the Roosevelt school auditorium for concerts. Mostly in the 1970s.

Very high energy, great singer / front man.

I just looked them up for fun. I can't believe they're still together.

I'll have to spend some time checking them out.

Yep, I used to catch them at the old Hollidaysburg YMCA when I was in jr. high. Best band to come to town in those days....

I was dating a girl in the fall of 1974 who went to Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown. WCRO radio station had some type of contest and the winning school would win a dance with Blue Ash. Bishop McCort won and they had a dance in their small cafeteria. I was only 18 and I was asked to be a chaperone for the dance. They were very good back then.

I remember hearing WFBG play "Abracadabra (Have You Seen Her)" back in the early '70s. I also remember hearing about Blue Ash playing in the area, including radio ads, etc.; but never got to see them perform live.

Yeah, saw them at the Penn Alto too.

Wasn't their guitarist know for his " Volume Control Swells"?

(Did I say that right?)

Yeah always liked these guys! A funny story from back when they played Altoona alot. Randy Rutherford, Ralph Young and I played in a band back in high school called Beginnings and the 3 of us were at Sea World in Ohio which was where Blue Ash was from but they appearently never played around there much.

Anyways we were walking around the park when we spotted their lead guitarist and followed him into one of the amphitheater shows and sat right behind him. We tapped him on the shoulder and asked if he played for Blue Ash. Well he was thrilled someone recognized him and we said we always caught them at the Penn Alto dances. They had just released their 1st album and he looks at us and said "Hey did you guys buy our album"? Randy had this deadpanned look on his face and said " No why would we"? Pissed the guitarist off and he wouldn't even look at us the rest of the day when we ran across him! Oh well high school kids!
