It's easy to rack up all those wins when you play shitty teams for 40+ years....

I wouldn't say all those wins over the years were against shitty teams.

i don't think joe was the real head coach this year. i know he's listed and everyone is told he is, but i find it hard to keep all you coaches in line and know what's going on with plays if you don't have a headset on talking to your coaches. he's just there on the sidelines as the novelty of penn state.
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

i doubt it...he still has clout on that sideline. he has said numerous times that he isn't the most technical guy...he's old school. this is a team who doesn't even have a special teams coach...

i don't know i think it'll be pretty hard to keep up with the speed of todays games when you can't communicate with the coaches calling the shots.

I think a bowl record of 23–11–1 and that 5 out of 12 teams they played this year are in bowls kinda puts the cowbosh on that.

I'm not happy either that they get the little sisters of the poor on their non-con schedule. Its not about good/bad...its all about the money and home games. PSU doesn't care who they play early as long as they will come to Beaver stadium without expecting PSU to go to their field next year.

I'm glad to see they got Alabama for a home & away the next few years, but they keep scheduling Ohio micro-teams for home games and Temple for 3 to 1. At least Temple went 9-3 this year.

With that kind of evidence, I'm not sure what your case is.

Bear in mind, Penn State only joined the Big Ten Conference in 1993. So three Big Ten championships in 16 years; behind Ohio State and Michigan, but tied with Wisconsin and Northwestern and more championships than Iowa and the rest of the conference teams during that same period.

Two national championships, yes, but I can dredge up the argument that undefeated teams in several years could/should have been national champions had they not been screwed by the system...they were victimized by President Nixon in 1969, whose plug for Texas gave them the championship over an equally undefeated Penn State team. And in 1994, Nebraska was voted champions in what was essentially a sympathy vote to give coach Tom Osborne a national championship before he retired. The bowl system at that time forced the two teams into separate bowl games so they couldn't face each other; many believe that had Penn State and Nebraska tangled on the field that year, Penn State had the better team and would have been the champions. (I still pronounce Penn State co-champions that year, since it was never decided on the field.)

And one thing everyone always overlooks when criticizing Penn State's weak schedule over the past few years...In the past two years, Alabama was supposed to be on Penn State's schedule, but Nick Saban withdrew 'Bama from the schedule after he had just taken over the program. This forced Penn State to fill those game vacancies on short notice with teams that were available, including Coastal Carolina in 2008.

Sorry, its not 5 out of 12 opponents are playing in bowls...it is 6 out of 12 opponents are playing in bowls. I overlooked 9-3 Temple.

And regarding cream puffs on Penn State's schedule, let's look at several other BCS teams and their non-conference opponents this season:

Alabama: played Florida International, North Texas and Chattanooga (they played one tough non-conference opponent, beating Virginia Tech)

Texas: played Louisiana-Monroe, Texas-El Paso, Wyoming and Central Florida (Wyoming was 6-6 and Central Florida was 8-4, and both got into minor bowl games)

Florida: played Charleston Southern, Troy State and Florida International (Troy went 9-3 and got into a minor bowl game)

As lonewolf eluded to, Temple went 9-3 and made a minor bowl game. And at the time Penn State scheduled Syracuse several years ago, the Orange was a competitive team (and although they finished 4-8 this year, two of Syracuse's wins were against Rutgers and Northwestern, who both made bowl games).

Thank you Rob and Jim.

Joe means sooooo much more than just wins and losses though. Anyone that doesn't like Joe is just jealous or is a fan of a rival team. The man is truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed when he is gone. He has never been a "win at all costs" guy, and has always tried to do things the right way with kids that actually BELONG in college.

Long live JoePa!
You don't shoot a man in the dick!
