I saw this list when the new issue of the magazine arrived a few days ago. It left me scratching my head.

A few issues ago, Rolling Stone featured a good article about Lemmy from Motorhead. Problem was, it was buried deep in an issue that had Madonna on the cover.

I'm likely letting my RS subscription run out the next time it's due.

Rolling Stone is sort of about what is currently happening. I know that does not really effect this area much but it does not hurt keeping up with and hearing new things.

Most of the current stuff is not my cup of tea but then again...

A guy like Conner Oburst is gonna get screwed cause he is speaking for a lot of young people and reaching them, too bad for him they don't believe in buying music...

On the other hand Moment of Surrender is a great song.

Outlaw Pete is also a great tune, not metal but great stuff none the less.

I don't think that Rolling Stone is the source for all things music but they are, uh, Rolling Stone Magazine... They do have some cred just for pulling through the last 25 years.

Some of the Covers and stories are great and some are not. I got a lifetime subscription in 1994 for $99 so I will probably just keep it. This way I at least know about the stuff that some of the kids are listening to..

I don't reach out for new music the way I use to....

First of all, Miley Cyrus, The Black Eyed Peas, ok maybe I can see that ... but excuse me for my ignornace, but who the hell are these other ppl other than the obvious.
Since most music is geared to national air time you will see some of the these names again come the Grammy's. Now granted, over the years, Madonna started out innocent enough .. Cough - Cough. So did Debbie Gibson and Tiffany (both posed nude) then came Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson. Lets not forget the fag boy bands that RSM thought that these "Musicians" were the saviours of pop music.
But, how many had to really work hard and pay their dues the way rock bands do! Rock bands and many of us in here who are in bands bust our asses to work hard at our craft. Alot of us are doing because we love music and enjoy the time we spend working on our crafts.
But this to me is a slap in the face just like in the late 70s and 80s when Circus Magazine was geared towards some of the best bands at that time in fact going back and doing interviews with the likes of Pland and Page and others that got rock really rolling.
I was under the impression that is why "ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE" began.
If there is one thing I have learned not just by being in a band or even writing for a newspaper, but an overall lesson is to be true to yourself. Do not sell out so you can become popular or famous. If you do then it is fake ... just like some of those afore mentioned groups and individuals. To me, RSM is just like looking at a really off name brand porn mag.

N'Sync still holds the record for the most albums sold in the first week of a release, 2.4 million or something like that. Any of you guys into that release? I don't much like the style but the production on it kicks ass.

Just because it is not what people on this page are into does not really mean anything.

I wonder how many people really would turn down a chance to play in a band making a modest income of maybe $10,000 a month to play for a band like N'Sync?

I know that most of us have way to much integrity for that...

Again just saying that art is art, pretty hard to really believe that one thing sucks anymore then any other thing when it comes to music...

Its like saying that blue sucks and red kicks ass...

Agreed 100%. Just because I may not like it doesn't mean it sucks. Clint C. and I got on this subect a couple of years ago. He likes Janis Joplin, I do not. Does Janis Joplin suck??? Obviously not because she's sold bazillions and influenced more female vocalists than you can count. Over the years I've learned that many folks use the term "Sucks" to mean "Displeasing to me".
