Im a Christian (not a very good one), but id still like to check out the record. What people say on records and the imagery they use arent necessarily what they believe. Always keep that in mind. Evil sells. A perfect example is Slayer. I rarely listen to any of the words alot of bands say. Sometimes its just too over the top, but the music is good. I cant NOT listen to a good band just because I disagree with their beliefs. Thats stupid.
Anyway guys, hold a copy for me. Ive got some left-handed rituals I need a soundtrack to. \m/
When are you guys coming to Aldo's again?

I agree that The Embalmed aren't anti-Christian here. If you listen carefully to the lyrics, they're anti- the people who hide behind and manipulate Christianity - in society, our government and the world - to advance their own corrupt purposes. And it's very cleverly done.
I usually don't give up my reviews before I air or print them, but I'm close to annointing WWJD a masterpiece...I pick up new details and nuances each time I listen to it, and it continues to bash my head in. Great stuff!
And that Feb. 12 bill at Aldo's is about as killer as it gets!

good
It is good and healthy to question everything around you. There are also a lot of "Christians" that really have their collective head's so far up each others collective assholes that they aren't worth much more then cannon fodder.
Jesus was not real big on the bullshitters. You have to be able to walk the walk and talk the talk.
The guys in the Embalmed are guys that give a shit about people and things. They are passionate (in a very laid back way) about a lot of things. Their are very few metal bands that I would leave my kids with but these guys could babysit, no questions asked. They deserve to have their views heard.
And this record kicks ass from what I have heard about it...
And I am not kissing anyones ass here.
Except maybe Gregg's cause I want him to teach my kids how to make bloody body parts....

I'll agree on several statements. My "anti-christian, anti-government" remark was just going by some of the defining points of songs. Some of it is just a laugh at the expense of this or that, the "moral majority". Either way, there's a direction here, and whether or not you can digest it, you have to admit... It's a point, and a strong one! Such subject matter doesn't matter to me, as I can nod to the points it makes, and laugh along with the jokes
I guess I'll go with what I previously said... These guys say what they want, and put it in a manner that you'll agree even if you don't want to. The sound quality is amazing, the music is great, and anyone who has any remote taste in the style of music is gonna love it. I guess that's the point I was trying to make

in reality, there is alot of different opinions about religion and politics in this band. my views are closer to Greg's, even though Chad is my brother. Chad is alot more moderate than me in alot of ways; i'm kinda anti-everything lol. it adds to the creative tension in a good way- especially when we split vocals and can each have our opinion heard.
i don't hate religion; i hate judgemental religion. we all lie, we're all hypocrites, and we all protect ourselves and beliefs by adhereing to ideas and beliefs that make the most sense to our abilities and insecurities. we're human; it goes with the territory because we are certain of nothing. i have no issue with ppl of faith; i just happen to have none. i just don't like Mr.Religious Guy that doesn't follow any tenants of whatever chosen religion until it's time to hate gays or point the finger at someone else.
i look at Satan as a metaphor of rebellion -the original rebel, the original entity to wanting to be an individual- that sort of thing. not accepting status quo..

After being a theistic agnostic (i.e., a word I invented in which I always believed in a higher power but didn't have a structured framework to explain what or who God was) for a while, I became born again. I've never found The Embalmed's lyrics to simply bash Christianity or put down people of real faith. Perhaps it's because I know the cats personally. I always got it that it was pointing a finger at the hypocrites.
I agree with Keith. I wouldn't refuse to listen to an artist just because they have different beliefs about something than me. I do make an exception for extreme examples. I refuse to listen to bands like Deicide or a lot of black metal that just makes it their single artistic mission to bash on everything Christian. By the same token, I wouldln't listen to a band who made it their mission to bash on Buddhism, Paganism, or Islam. I don't listen to Skrewdriver because I don't dig the intolerance message, but they're free to make the music they believe in, no matter how misdirected I think it is.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
Re: good
That's EXACTLY how I am. I believe in a higher power, but I don't know or pretend to know what/who it is or how it works. I do not believe in organized religion, I don't believe people will be damned just because they don't go to church or donate to any church.bassist_25 wrote:theistic agnostic (i.e., a word I invented in which I always believed in a higher power but didn't have a structured framework to explain what or who God was)
The Embalmed's lyrics are spot on with a lot of my own personal beliefs, whether it be religion or government. As I see it, those two things only work for the people that give them money or have money. I don't have much extra money, I can't even afford health care for myself or my wife (thank god my kids get it through assistance), yet the rich will always get tax breaks & whatnot.
When I used to go to my wife's church, the pastor treated me like one of "God's Children", but she would walk into the store I work in, doesn't recognize me & treats me like the lowest form of life on the planet. I would think someone of her position would treat all of us like "God's Children", but I guess it's only if she sees you slip some green paper into that big ass copper bowl they pass around once a week... Interesting...
Oh well, I've gone on too long & gotten off topic.
In conclusion, WWJD rocks, everyone needs to get a copy or 3. Maybe I should get one for my wife's pastor as a late stocking stuffer...
Happiness is like peeing your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.
There is a higher power! He gave a press conference in New York on Friday to address televangelist Pat Robertson's remarks about the Haiti earthquake:

I was president of our church council about 10 years ago. Our church was very small in attendance and was always about to shut the doors, but the bigshot Bishop came to a meeting one time and explained all this crap about this and that- basically trying to get us to close down. I got my eyes opened to organized religion during those 3 years and let me tell ya,most of it is about the almighty dollar-our pastor paid for NOTHING except her long distance phone calls, shit,we even paid for her subscription to the Altoona Mirror for pete's sake. I believe in God,that's the way I was raised, but I'm not much for the church scene anymore, not knocking anyone who goes, but there are a shitload of hypocrites sitting in church every week that end up being no better than the rest of us that don't go except they get to say,"Oh,I go to church every Sunday," I guess that makes it ok when they "let loose" during the week.
Anyways, didn't mean to hijack the thread but I can understand where The Embalmed comes from with some of their lyrical content.
Great cd fellas!!!!!! Looking forward to our gig with ya in Feb!!!!

Politics and Religion
Thats right Scott, organized religion has become like politics. You know that people were suppose to be politicians when they could. We were not suppose to create "politicians" to be a lifetime career.
Just like religion, a pastor should have to work. On the flip side people should carry God and their "beliefs" out into the world. They should not just lock them up for Sunday Morning. The politics and money side of the church make me sick but, like Jason stated earlier in this post about Satan, the Pharisees are just sort of their. They have to exist for good to exist it is sort of like without hot we would not really understand cold.
But yeah, like you said Scotty! Now get a damn haircut!

I'm proud of myself. Due to misunderstandings and misinterpretations of what I said, I've chaotically corrupted a thread!

Oh well. Religion is a laughable thing to me. I've known people of many religions. Peace is the general mind of most religions. Letting others do what they will so long as they don't hurt anyone is also in that religious concensus. But somehow, modern "political religion" is so worried about what others are doing and forgetting their main goals as a religion. It's funny. However, it paints bad pictures of what the religion is supposed to be based off of
How can one who is supposed to want peace and wish good will on their fellow man stick their nose so far up peoples' asses, when they haven't sniffed their own? Don't call me evil just cos I'm not doing everything you're doing
