Social Security now bankrupt

Post by Banned »

Social Security is now paying out more than it takes in. This was not supposed to happen until 7 years or so, but the poor economy is the main reason. Thanks B. Hussein.

Dude, I am not an apologist for the W, but SS was 7 years away from insolvency when W was pres, and in one short year, SS is now bankrupt, quit blaming every fuck up of this president on others. Naw, never mind, who would expect a set of balls from a liberal.

You really do force a lot of wrong thinking into what you read. Really odd.

It's been every president's fault for slowly turning this country into a land of fucking entitlements.

And what pray tell could be right thinking about our major and most expensive entitlement going bankrupt?

I think it's funny that government creates problems, then tries to fix it by creating more problems....

Why doesn't PA have enough money to fix the roads and bridges? One of the basic roles of government?

Politicians fix problems by throwing money at them, rather than assessing the situation and fixing it the way it should. Politicians want votes and power, simple as that. We need people, like the founding fathers, that actually wanted to make the country better, not just votes and political bullshit.

Actually, SSI was born from arguably the worst political treachery in the history of the United States.

The architect of this treachery: Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Nearly all of our problems with the federal government today stem from this one act of treachery. They don't teach this in grade school or civics class or even in basic college poli-sci classes. The college classes that do cover it make it out to be some kind of wonderful revolution, but it was nothing less than the extortion of the Supreme Court and the hijacking of the Constitution.

Here is a short summary that helps to explain the events that led our nation to the abyss:

FDR is the Father of American Socialism .. They all say he is the one who got us out of the Great Depression, when if fact we were getting worse with his efforts and it was WWII that got us out of the Great Depression. Many claim that he was the best Prez ever, I think he is one of the worst Prez's ever. Agree? Please, tell me if I am wrong here :)

And thanx for the link Lonewolf, it just adds more light to the tunnel ..

i can't tell you your wrong but i can give you a counter argument. if it was ww2 that got us out of the depression why isn't the two wars were in now getting us out of this near depression?
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

Maybe because we tried to win WWII. This "war", which is of course no war, because Congress did not declare war, is going to go on forever.

That is a very good argument and one that I can not answer fully, but think that maybe because we don't have all the production and business activity that was going on during WWII?

Because of FDR's policies, we were ill-equipped to go to war with anybody. Once the shock of Pearl Harbor cleared, Roosevelt was forced to ramp up production of tanks, jeeps, ships and planes. To do this, he borrowed $billions$ (trillions in today's dollars) and enlisted the huge capacity of American industry to crank out military hardware at a rate never achieved before or since. When the war was over, we had by far the greatest industrial capacity the world had ever seen. Europe needed rebuilt and as the last man standing, we got that job as well.

This, combined with the fact that our homeland was unscathed led us into the post WWII prosperity.

Roosevelt never lived to see that prosperity.

Thus began the mythology that war and deficit spending can get you out of a recession. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was the need to get ready for war that caused economic growth. After WWII, we had a policy of maintaining military readiness, so wars were of no economic value, except to drain the Nation's blood and treasure.

Deficit spending? ROFLMAO. I suppose it helped in the WWII scenario when the money was used to build industry to new heights; however, we have spent the last 40 or so years with deficit spending and have managed to all but destroy our industrial infrastructure in the process.

Shameful

Not bankrupt. If a business has to take a loss for a month, that's not bankruptcy, but you're going to run with that anyway. I know you can't wrap your mind around "business taking a loss."
Here's a fly in your extremist ointment:
Just a few short years ago, G-Dub was attempting to take money out of the SS wallet and give it to Wall Street to invest for us. Hannity, Rush, and O'Reilly were tasked with convincing us all that SocSec was just fine, but we could all make WAY more money for our retirement. Hell, I seem to remember Rockpagers parroting that same exact train of thought. How'd that deregulation-y, bailout-y thing work out for ya? --->JMS

Wonderful! 2009 was by far my best financial year ever, even better than the last! I have to pay those rotten bastards in DC enough taxes this April to keep them running for at least a few nanoseconds. I try to do my part.

One thing though. Nobody was advocating giving the money to Wall Street. It would have been the individual's choice when and where the money got invested.

Ahh, the spin never stops. This is still all W's fault. Typical, typical. We all know that the dems think everything is Bush's fault, it is time to move on to something else. Maybe the effort of civility in debate? Now that is a joke. Dems crying about civility when they have none to begin with
