Eric Clapton Trivia Question for his 65th Birthday
Eric Clapton Trivia Question for his 65th Birthday
Two of Eric Clapton's biggest hit songs, "After Midnight" and "Cocaine" were written and originally recorded by somebody else. Who was it?
This person also wrote and originally recorded "Bringing It Back" covered by Kansas, and "Call Me the Breeze" and " I Got the Same Old Blues" covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yes, it was J. J. Cale - great songwriter. For those who may not have heard the original versions of some of his songs that were big hits by other musicians, here are a few.

Was it? Man, you gotta give props to a songwriter like that, so many songs placed to varied artists. Did you know the same songwriting team, husband & wife Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote "Love Hurts" for Nazareth, "Rocky Top" (oft-covered bluegrass standard and state song of Tennessee), and most of the Everly Brothers major hits? What a career!--->JMS
Love Hurts was actually orignally recorded by The Everly Brothers in July 1960 they but never released it as a single.songsmith wrote:Was it? Roy Orbison did it in 1961 as a B-side to Running Scared but it became a hit for him on its own reaching #5 in Australia.

Several others did it before Nazareth in 1975 and they had a mega hit with their version.

The original version of Tainted Love by Gloria Jones from 1964 is great! She was Marc Bolan's (T-Rex) girlfriend and mother of their child and she was driving the car when he was killed.f.sciarrillo wrote:That is like "Tainted Love". There are about 30 remakes of it as well.
I like JJ Cales version of After Midnight better than Claptons for some reason. Maybe because it is a little slower and more bluesy ...
