Here is a song that just about everybody has played at sometime. Who did the original version of Louie Louie?

That was a surprisingly controversial song in its time. The FBI actually were involved in an investigation.

"In February, 1964, an outraged parent wrote to Robert Kennedy, then the attorney general of the United States, alleging that the lyrics of "Louie Louie" were obscene. The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the complaint. In June, 1965, the FBI laboratory obtained a copy of the recording and, after two years of investigation, concluded that the recording could not be interpreted, that it was "unintelligible at any speed," and therefore the Bureau could not find that the recording was obscene. "

Good one. I never knew that about the FBI being involved. Wow .. I'm not sure who originally did it, I will let some one else answer it though

Richard Berry wrote the song and recorded it with his back-up band "The Pharaohs" in April 1957.

Didn't Little Richard have some similar type of problem with the lyrics to "Tutti Fruitti"? The 50's and early 60's were some strange times, with all the burning of rock and roll records.

Not that it matters, but Louie Louie is the first rock song my drum teacher ever had me play along to. It is a great memory !

BTW I just heard the House Band cover that song on Friday.
