Any RVers among us?
Any RVers among us?
I bought an old Toyota Coachmen RV a few weeks ago, for the bluegrass festivals and fishing trips... gosh, what a money pit! It was cheap enough, and had a "small water leak." I've spent every spare moment for the past few days replacing soft and rotten plywood, and the damn thing's still under a tarp... I haven't even patched the leak. Still, I can't wait to take her out.
Anyone here have a camper? Any good cheap places to camp?--->JMS

In the woods with a tent. If you want a box on wheels with a microwave, fridge, television, bed, shower, etc, you can just rent a lot in the trailer park.songsmith wrote:Any good cheap places to camp?--->JMS
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

river front camp ground in dunncannon. awesome, super friendly owner. right on the point of the juniatta and susquehanna. great channel cat fishing. pricing isn't bad either. it ain't pretty but it's worth going. i go every year in july. i have a 1970 champion rv. your not kidding about being a money pitt. mine needed tires. they are mounted on split rims. it cost me 60 per tire just to have new ones mounted. and another 110 for the tire. then times that by 7........ouch. good luck with the water leak. they are a bitch to seal. mine is a gas hog to. an old dodge 413. lots of power no gas mileage. anyway happy camping.

Tent camper here..everyone I've ever known that had an RV complained about it being a money pit. Really bad. It ended up rusting in their yard. So good luck!
Oh, and when you do camp in the thing, don't be one of those people that never emerge from your camper (why not stay home?) and run your loud generator all the time. We hate that....
Sorry I digress...
Go to Florida to camp, you'll have lots of company.

i agree why go if you gonna hide in your camper. i would sooner tent camp than use the rv. but i never have to unload and store allmy other camping gear. i like it for the ease. when i get home i just back it in the drive way take my clothes and cooler out and i', done and ready for the next trip. lol so i'm a lazy camper.ZappasXWife wrote:Tent camper here..everyone I've ever known that had an RV complained about it being a money pit. yeah and you can have a lot of fun with it . I use mine 12 months a year . take it to ski slopes in the winter. i also like tent camopng but this is a party on wheels. I took it to new york city went to blues clubs , comedy clubs everywhere and parked right in downtown manhatten and slept for free. Park and camp along rivers at bike path trail heads make a fire and cook down at the river next day ride kies. You can do this at the pa grand canyon, pa white water places where you can aslo kayak, ohio pyle staete park. you take all the food and party materials and go easy on gas and let you imagination run wild jerry c [ white shadow band

Branch Camp
Try the Branch Camp in Huntingdon. It's right on the river so you can go up the road and float down on an innertube. Plus it's a laidback atmosphere. I think it's about $12.00 per night.
Ask for site #29 or 31. Both are at the end with good privacy.
OR come camp at Depot fest all weekend for 15 bucks. Camping and music included

For just me, the back of my Escort wagon works fine, with a lawn chair cushion and my sleeping bag. It was adequate for sleeping over during last year's Cosmic Jam and Smoked Country Jam (and was probably better than an RV in escaping the mud during the latter!).
I plan to break out the tent at least once or twice this year, probably for music-related events.

I normally tent camp, so the amenities in the RV won't get much use... I don't plan on filling the propane tank, and it doesn't have an AC... it's basically a place to comfortably sleep and get out of the weather that usually accompanies my camping trips.
I mostly bought it because it's tricked out in luxurious 24-yr-old vomit-colored shag carpeting. This ride came pre-pimped.

1980 Tioga
Far-out man. I had a 1980 Tioga once. Totally retro looking. Shag carpet, patchwork cushion covers and a lot of windows for light. It only had 51,000 miles. We named her Maggie (you know... Maggie's farm).
We took it on tour and broke down in canandaigua NY and replaced the alternator. Then we blew a piston near Philly. Cost me $700. just to get it home. We did however make 3 more shows before it finally shit-the-bed.
My advice, buy "AAA Rv." You get 100 miles of towing 4x. It's like $94.00 but sooooo worth it.
Just wait... when it's pouring rain at a festival, notice how many people want to "hang-out" with ya. They'll be the ones that bust your balls for buying it in the first place.

Yea, guilty. I'd hang out in your RV with a can of beans, plus I really want to see your 24-yr-old shag vomit carpet. It sounds luxurious. And witchhunt, how did you get a pic of songsmiths RV on there already?
