That Gilbert O'Sullivan song was a huge hit in the summer of 1972 and always brings back great memories for me. I was in my church youth group and was a few weeks shy of turning 16 when we went to do building repair work at an orphanage in Mars, PA. I had my transistor radio with me everywhere we worked and that song was played frequently and we all used to sing along with it.
Here is another forgotten hit song from 1972.
Malo - Suavecito. This song was a #18 hit single in 1972. Malo was a 12 piece band and one of the guitar players was Jorge Santana (Carlos Santana's brother). Even though they were somewhat of a one hit wonder on the Top 40 pop charts, they have had numerous hit songs on the U.S. Latin charts and are very popular throughout Central and South Amercia but they are from San Francisco, CA. They are still together but have had many lineup changes.
