Question about the PA music scene
Question about the PA music scene
I don't know a whole lot about bands and musicians around here, or their audiences and I was wondering what people's thoughts would be on a speed metal band going somewhere. Me and my buddy are working on getting a speed metal band going (still looking for a drummer and singer) but we both want music to be our career. We play mostly old school Metallica and Megadeth, but we even do some Diamond Head, Rush and Judas Priest, amoung other songs. We are working on originals and are going to concentrate on them more when we get going. So I was just curious as to what people's opinions would be on this.
eh i don't think i would have high hopes of making it a career, but you would have bands to play that with and people to come out and see your band.
im not saying it can't happen but i haven't seen too many careers in music here in this area.

The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

I can tell you are probably some younger guys. Just play as many shows as you can get on...especially benefits, openers, parties, etc. Don't expect to make any money, actually expect to see a lot of your own cash on hand to go to expenses. Between fuel, getting to shows, maintaining your equip, promotion (like flyers) yadda yadda, it all adds up. Plus all your practice time cutting into your family/social life will weed the true musicians out. If you don't do it for the fun and love of music, at least at first, you will be disappointed. I can actually see you guys having fanbase of older cats like me that were jamming out to the old school thrash 25 years ago, but you are limited to maybe 2 bars where you could probably get away with playing it locally, So you'll have to network and get shows how ever far you guys are willing to travel.... Pay your dues and you will be rewarded! Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. And yeah we're probably younger than most guys on here. Were 16 and 17. Also I realize metal isn't big, but we're willing to go and play where ever anyone wants to here it. Right now, it's not about the money, either. Once we get a drummer and hopefully a singer, we're willing to give it everything, and play anywhere we can, just to get our name out their and try to build up a fanbase. I know we won't be able to stick around here if we want to be really successful, either. We're willing to travel where ever we have to. We have so much drive and ambition, and want to go somehere with our music, so we're willing to work our asses off if that's what it takes. Also I don't expect to get "famous" or become a "household name" like Metallica or anything like that, and I know those chances are slim. But, I do know that playing music is my passion and if someday we can make a living playing music, that would be awesome. I do know I will need to have an actual job, though, to fall back on and to pay for everything playing in a band requires.

Sounds like you got a pretty good head on your shoulders for only being 16 or 17. Like Charltor said, have fun, play shows and keep digging at it. Sure, you'll get frustrated, but hold your chin up,stick to your guns and play and/or write the music you want to. You guys got a great set list,I was listening to those tunes a long time ago, haha!!! Anyways, get that band together and let people on here know you're up and running, you'll get some gigs for sure. Shit, get ahold of us old guys in NailDriver,we'll have ya jam with us if at all possible. Metal up your ass!!!!!!Rattlehead_82 wrote:Thanks for the advice.
