Ditto...congratulations Joe on hitting the 400 victory milestone!

I'm also glad for the team as well; coming from 21 points down to beat Northwestern should build their confidence and bode well for their future.

Since Joe did achieve the 400-win plateau, I thought I'd reminisce my favorite 5 wins during the Joe era...

1) The 1986 Fiesta Bowl win over Miami...What else can be said about this one? Miami showed up decked in combat fatigues and talking the talk, but it was Penn State walking the walk on the field and winning Joe's second national championship!

2) The 1982 Nebraska game...I remember this one well; a student at University Park at the time, I had attended 3 parties the night before and was horribly hung over, yet trudged my way to Beaver Stadium. As soon as I struggled to my seat, the PA blasted The Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" before the game, and the place lit up! The energy was constant, as Penn State took the early lead, saw Nebraska come back and take the lead in the second half, and the Lions mount the winning drive in the 4th quarter courtesy of the controversial Mike McCloskey catch (in bounds or out of bounds?). My head was still throbbing badly at the end of that game, but the Lions had won, so I didn't care!

3) The 1981 Pitt game...With QB Dan Marino at the helm, top-ranked Pitt took a 14-0 early lead over #11 Penn State, and it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the Lions. But the Lions woke up in the 2nd quarter and tied the game at 14 by halftime, and went on to roll off 34 more unanswered points to upset and crush Pitt on their home turf, 48-14. Many consider this game a springboard to the Lions' championship season the following year.

4) The 1986 Alabama game...On their way to their second national championship, the Lions went into Tuscaloosa and systematically shut down the #2 Crimson Tide 23-3. I remember one play in particular in the second half where Penn State ran a reverse, and left two Alabama defenders laying on the field clutching injured knees.

5) The 1990 Notre Dame game. The Lions went into South Bend to face the top-ranked Fighting Irish, who took a 21-0 lead early, and led 21-7 at the half. In the second half, though, the Lions mounted their comeback and shut out Notre Dame, and a Craig Fayak field goal with 8 seconds left gave the Lions the 24-21 upset win. I remember this one very well because I was running the game on WFBG-AM, and we had to cut away just as the Lions were mounting their tying drive so we could carry a Bishop Guilfoyle football game...Boy did I have to deal with some angry listeners that night!

Hey JP didnt NBC pull a boner like that at one time for FREAKIN HEIDI!

anyway, in my years of writing sports i have been sitting in the press box which the print media is at the top so we see everything....but right before the Arizonia game when Trung Candidate and the boys came callin, Beaver Stadium reminded me more of being at a rock concert than at a football game...frenzied pitched, shouting, singing and as the team gets ready and stands just outside the tunnel, its like the lights going down and waiting for the headliner to come on stage and hit that first note to a song....all very, very cool

Double Dittos here, but JP, that was the 1987 Fiesta Bowl that capped the 1986 season...we know what you mean though.

ABC had a pregame show that I taped and consisted of Knute Rockne: All-American starring Ronald Reagan, a pre-game analysis called "Duel in the Desert" and then the game itself.

I remember 4 of those 5 games well, but I think my most memorable was the 1969 Orange Bowl where Penn State scored a touchdown in the last minute to make the score 14-13, Kansas. As it would become a Paterno trademark, rather than kick the extra point and settle for a tie, Paterno went for the 2-point conversion and the win. They tried a pass which was incomplete and it seemed like it was over, but then the flag dropped and Kansas was charged with 12 men on the field. On the 2nd try, they ran it in for 2 and won the game 15-14. I was 10 and watched this one at home on TV. Its the 1st bowl game that I remember watching.

The 48-14 mud bowl between Pitt and PSU was pulled for "regularly scheduled programming" with a few minutes left. It wasn't Heidi...that was a Jets vs. Raiders game back in the 60s. By 1981, though, the networks still didn't get it and there were a lot of pissed PSU fans, myself included.

First half sucked...went for a hot dog with 3 min left in the half and almost went back to the car. Decided to stick it out for the second half and I am glad we did. Beaver stadium was rockin' last night. Pretty cool ceremony for Joe after the game too.
