Who ever said that just because somebody performed on the Grammy Awards show this year that it automatically means they should win an award?
Well, Mick Jagger performed on the Grammy Awards this year too and The Rolling Stones have sold a gazillion records but they have never won a Grammy for any song or album in their career. They did receive a lifetime achievement award in 1989. I never heard Mick complaining.
An interesting Grammy moment.
The Best Rock & Roll Recording category in 1966 was so jam packed with great songs that even the "blindfolded man chucking darts at nominees" method could have yielded a deserving winner. The list included several future classics: "Eleanor Rigby" (The Beatles), "Good Vibrations" (The Beach Boys), "Last Train To Clarksville" (The Monkees), "Cherish" (The Association) and "Monday Monday" (The Mamas and the Papas). Take your pick, it's all magic baby! Here we have arguably The Beach Boys' and Beatles' finest moments ever squaring off, head to head, one night only! Who will took home the Grammy? Oh yeah, some novelty single called "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band.

Don't tempt people, as I'm sure someone will give you balls. In some cases, your chin may be where they rest
The modern music scene has no clue what it's doing. You have to dig under the pop BS, and outside the lines of what TV calls "music" to find the start of talent. For many, that's an obscene idea, but for the rest of us, it's how we've found the fruits of others' true labor... Not an auto-tuner with a synthesizer on top of a horrible voice. But for all of that, don't consider people total idiots. Even in the heart of society, where no one knows a damn thing, you'll find people actually listen to real music, even if their forte isn't music at all
