Angie Gioiosa R.I.P.

Post by Jim Price »

Although this isn't music-related, I thought I'd post about the passing of Angie Gioiosa at age 72. He was a long-distance runner, and could often be spotted running along Altoona area roads and highways. He died of cancer at age 72.

I had him for Social Studies class in high school; he was one of the cooler teachers I had, I remember he often came up with witty one-liners during class. He was pretty popular with the students.

If you lived in the Altoona area, you probably passed Angie running along the roads at one point, his head tilted as he ran. As the article said, he was addicted to running. Sadly, he couldn't outrun cancer. R.I.P.

I too had him as a teacher and enjoyed his class. He was a running machine! RIP Angie.

I haven't seen a pic to confirm, but I think this was the fellow we referred to as, "The Running Man." We'd see him occasionally, no matter where we lived in Altoona, any time of day, on any street. We started saying hello, and he'd puff out a breathy "Hi," but he wasn't out to socialize, he was a Runner. On numerous occasions, I'd see him in the morning running, and again that same evening, and we'd wonder aloud if he had taken a break that day.
He ran 50-mile supermarathons, and won. That is impressive in itself, all his professional achievments and service to local students is even more so. My condolences to his family and friends.

He was an awesome teacher. I remember he used to carry two wallets, why I don't remember, but that always stuck in my skull. RIP Mr. G
