Farewell to a great band. Monster was one of my favorite albums when I was around 14 years old. It's also great to hear that they disbanded on their own terms and still have a great relationship with each other.

Never much cared for the group, the last thing I remember them doing was the end of the world song that was on Independence Day....

Love R.E.M. Up there as a favourite. BUT, was looking forward to seeing how many "Good"s and "FINALLY"s were posted.

Hey, now, Slappy, it's my opinion. If you don't like it, well...I'll be nice, it's okay if you don't like it.

eh...honestly I had no idea they were still together. Its always nice to see a band breaking up amicably and trying to stay friendly though after so long. I can't say I'm really a fan but I appreciate their body of work.

+1. I thought they were together in name only. They had some really good songs, if a bit whiney, and I always relate them to "the college kids who didn't listen to metal." The ones who suddenly had to wear corduroy and Hush Puppies, because that what the professor wore. You can't deny their influence and catalog, but it was mostly lost on me.

Same here, same here. I haven't heard much from them in years, and they were just lost to society and their own ways to me. Always good to see that people can remain good friends after so long

Age

Gonna show my age a bit but...

Radio Free Europe was very cool at the time and Murmer was like nothing before or after it.

We were doing some stuff for AIDS project LA once and were at a video shoot for the video "Drive". It was in the Sepulveda flood basin in Burbank. Micheal Stipe came out and sat down kind of by himself, we walked over and started to talk and he was very nerdy and kind of quiet but nice. He also signed my REM mix tape that I happened to have in my 72 mustang..

I liked the first 10 albums or so but the last several have not done much for me. Last one I really liked was "New Adventures in HiFi"..

I never wonder anymore at peoples taste in music so...

They did what they did...

Likewise, I can't say I ever was a big R.E.M. fan, but liked some of their songs and catalog. They were influential and helped shape alternative rock and its definition.

I respected that they largely did their own thing, and didn't pander to what the music industry or the masses wanted to hear. They had a few hits along the way, but mostly they stuck to their guns and did the music they wanted to do, when they wanted to do it. And they exited amicably and on their own terms.
